Home University and Other than Home University

The brochure defines Home University (HU) as the university area where the candidate passed the qualifying examination, and OHU as the area outside that Home University.

In CAP, seats at a college are divided into Home University seats for candidates from that university area, Other than Home University seats for candidates from elsewhere in Maharashtra, and State Level seats at certain institutions. Per Schedule I of the 2026-27 CAP information brochure (dated 2 July 2026), non-autonomous government and government-aided institutes and university departments fill 70 percent of seats for Home University and 30 percent for Other than Home University candidates, while autonomous government and aided institutes fill 100 percent at State Level. Confirm the 2027 split in the next CAP brochure. Your HU depends on where you passed HSC, so it can lead to different cutoffs for the same college.

Reservation

  • Maharashtra State categories include SC, ST, VJ/DT-NT, OBC, SBC, SEBC and EWS, along with horizontal quotas such as PwD.
  • The fee note says caste certificate, caste validity certificate, non-creamy layer certificate and EWS certificate (in the state format) are needed at CAP form filling to be considered in the category.
  • SEBC reservation is stated to be subject to High Court decisions. The Cell extended the deadline for caste validity certificates in 2026.
  • Percentage splits are published in the CAP brochure each year. We have not quoted figures.

Other seats

Seats are also filled through institutional quota, minority quota, and vacancy rounds after CAP. JEE Main scores are preferred over MHT CET for All India candidature.

CAP fee

The 2026-27 CAP information brochure sets the CAP application processing fee for first year engineering, pharmacy and related courses at Rs 1,300 for general candidates and Rs 1,000 for Maharashtra reserved and PwD candidates (USD 50 for NRI, OCI, PIO and foreign national children). It is non-refundable. Tuition fees approved by the Fee Regulating Authority are in the CAP notices and were not verified here.
