Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the JEE College Predictor 2026?

Our college predictor uses actual JoSAA cutoff data from 2024-2025, seat matrix, and historical trends to provide highly accurate predictions. The algorithm considers your rank, category, home state, and gender to match colleges where you have high, medium, or low admission chances. While predictions are based on real data, actual cutoffs may vary each year based on exam difficulty and student preferences.

What data is required for college prediction?

To get accurate college predictions, you need: (1) Your JEE Main or JEE Advanced rank, (2) Your category (General/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/EWS/PwD), (3) Your home state (for NIT state quota), (4) Your gender. Optional inputs include preferred branch and college type. The more accurate information you provide, the better the predictions will be.

What is the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced college predictor?

JEE Main college predictor is for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs (participating through JoSAA). JEE Advanced college predictor is specifically for IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology). Some students appear for both exams and can use both predictors to see their options across all top engineering colleges.

How does home state affect college admission?

Home state quota significantly impacts NIT admissions. Each NIT reserves 50% seats for home state candidates and 50% for other state candidates. Home state cutoffs are generally less competitive, giving you an advantage in NITs in your state. For example, if you're from Maharashtra, you'll have better chances at NIT Nagpur compared to candidates from other states.

Can I get IIT with a rank of 10,000 in JEE Advanced?

With a rank of 10,000 in JEE Advanced, getting IITs in top branches (Computer Science, Electrical) is difficult, but you may get newer IITs (IIT Tirupati, IIT Dharwad, IIT Goa) or less competitive branches (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical) in older IITs. Category also plays a major role - OBC-NCL, SC, and ST candidates have better chances with the same rank compared to General category.

What are opening and closing ranks in JoSAA?

Opening rank is the best rank that got admission in a particular branch and college. Closing rank is the last rank that secured admission. If your rank is between opening and closing rank, you have a good chance. If your rank is better than opening rank, chances are very high. If it's worse than closing rank, chances are low.

How many colleges can I get through JoSAA counselling?

Through JoSAA counselling, you can get admission to: 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 GFTIs (Government-Funded Technical Institutes), totaling over 100 institutes. Each institute offers multiple branches, giving thousands of B.Tech options across Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and other engineering branches.

When should I use the college predictor?

Use the college predictor immediately after knowing your JEE Main or JEE Advanced rank. This helps you shortlist colleges and branches before JoSAA choice filling. Knowing your options helps you make informed decisions while filling choices and improves your chances of getting a preferred college.

Does the predictor work for both B.Tech and B.Arch?

Our college predictor primarily covers B.Tech/B.E programs. For B.Arch and B.Planning programs, you need to appear for JEE Main Paper 2 and have separate counselling. The cutoffs and admission process for architecture programs are different from engineering programs.

What is the fee structure for predicted colleges?

IIT fees are approximately Rs 2-2.5 lakh per year, NIT fees are Rs 1.5-2 lakh per year, and IIIT fees vary from Rs 1.9-3.75 lakh per year depending on the institute. Scholarship options like Merit-cum-Means (for income < Rs 6 lakh/year) and SC/ST scholarships can significantly reduce the financial burden.
