Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about DASA counselling, eligibility, and college predictions.

1
What is DASA counselling?
DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) is a scheme by the Ministry of Education that allows NRI, PIO, OCI, and children of Indian workers in Gulf countries (CIWG) to seek admission in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs. Admission is based on JEE Main scores, not rank.
2
What is the difference between DASA-CIWG and DASA (Non-CIWG)?
DASA-CIWG is a sub-category for children of Indian workers employed in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. They get additional benefits and a separate quota. DASA (Non-CIWG) covers general NRI, PIO, and OCI candidates.
3
Which colleges participate in DASA counselling?
DASA counselling covers 24 NITs, 8 IIITs, and 15 GFTIs. Seats are available across various branches. The number of seats is limited - typically 2-5 per program per institute.
4
Is JEE Main mandatory for DASA admission?
Yes, from 2021 onwards, JEE Main score is mandatory for DASA admission. Students who have passed Class 12 with PCM from a foreign board must have a valid JEE Main score.
5
How accurate is the DASA College Predictor?
Our predictor uses historical JoSAA DASA cutoff data from 2025. Since DASA seat count is small, cutoffs can vary significantly year to year. Use this as a planning tool - actual results may vary based on applicant pool size.
6
Can Indian nationals abroad apply through DASA?
Only NRI, PIO, and OCI card holders can apply through DASA. Indian nationals studying abroad on temporary visas are NOT eligible for DASA unless they hold OCI/PIO status. CIWG candidates must have parents currently working in Gulf countries.
