JoSAA Counselling Schedule 2026

JoSAA Counselling 2026 registration started on 2 June 2026 at 5:00 PM on josaa.nic.in. Choice filling was open from 2 June to 11 June 2026. Mock Seat Allotment 1 was on 8 June, Mock Allotment 2 and Choice Locking on 10 June. Round 1 seat allotment was declared on 13 June 2026.

JoSAA 2026 conducted 5 rounds of seat allotment, which have now concluded (Round 4 on 10 July 2026, and Round 5 — the final round for all IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs — on 16 July 2026). If there are vacant seats after Round 5, CSAB Special Rounds are conducted for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee within the specified deadline to confirm their allotted seat.

The seat acceptance fee for JoSAA Counselling 2026 is Rs 35,000 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates and Rs 15,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. This fee is adjusted against the admission fee when you join the allotted institute. If you don't get admission or withdraw before the last round, the fee is refunded after deducting a processing fee of Rs 3,000.

Yes, you can modify, reorder, add or delete your filled choices as many times as you want during the choice filling period. However, no modifications are allowed once the choice filling window closes. It's important to carefully arrange your choices in order of preference as seat allotment is based purely on your choice order, rank, category, and seat availability.

Required documents include: Class 10th certificate (for DOB proof), Class 12th marksheet/pass certificate, JEE Main 2026 scorecard, JEE Advanced 2026 scorecard, Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS), PwD certificate, Birth certificate, Passport size photographs, and Proof of seat acceptance fee payment. All documents should be in the prescribed format and self-attested.

If you don't accept the allotted seat by paying the seat acceptance fee before the deadline, you will not be considered for further rounds of counselling. Your candidature will be cancelled, and you won't be eligible for seat allotment in subsequent rounds. However, you can still participate in CSAB special counselling if eligible.

Newspapers and education portals also publish updates. It's recommended to enable notifications from the official JoSAA portal and check your registered email regularly.

Freeze means you accept the allotted seat and don't want to participate in further rounds. Float means you accept the seat but want to be considered for better options in subsequent rounds. Surrender means you want to withdraw from the counselling process entirely. You can change from Float to Freeze but not from Freeze to Float. Surrender can only be done in specific rounds.
