JEE Main 2026 Result
Check your score, download scorecard, and know next steps
The JEE Main result is released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) as a percentile-based scorecard rather than raw marks, and understanding this distinction is one of the more commonly misunderstood aspects of the exam. Because JEE Main is held across multiple sessions and multiple shifts within each session, raw scores aren't directly comparable — question difficulty can vary slightly between shifts even with NTA's careful paper-setting process. To account for this, NTA converts each candidate's raw score into a percentile using a statistical normalization formula that reflects their relative performance against all other candidates in the same shift, and it is this percentile — commonly referred to as the "NTA Score" — that appears on your scorecard and is used to compute your All India Rank (AIR).
Results for Session 1 and Session 2 are declared separately, generally within two to three weeks of each session's exam dates, and your final merit position for JEE Advanced eligibility and JoSAA/CSAB counselling is based on the better of your two percentiles if you appeared in both sessions. It's worth noting that a 100 percentile can be achieved by more than one candidate in the same session (since percentile reflects relative standing rather than a unique numeric score), which is why NTA also applies a defined tie-breaking formula — based on subject-wise percentile scores and, ultimately, age — to assign each candidate a distinct rank even when total percentiles are identical.
Once your result is declared, the scorecard becomes an important document for the rest of your admission journey — it is required (alongside your admit card) at multiple later stages, including JEE Advanced registration if you qualify, and JoSAA/CSAB document verification regardless of whether you go on to JEE Advanced. Download and save it promptly, since NTA typically keeps scorecards accessible on its portal only until a stated deadline, after which retrieving a lost copy can involve a more cumbersome duplicate-request process through NTA's helpdesk.

Understanding Percentile & Normalization
A percentile score should not be confused with a percentage — a 90 percentile does not mean you answered 90% of questions correctly; it means you scored higher than approximately 90% of all candidates who appeared in your session. This is why percentile scores in JEE Main tend to look consistently high even for moderate performances relative to the total marks, and why comparing your percentile against category-wise historical cutoffs (rather than against your raw marks) is the more meaningful way to gauge your standing for JEE Advanced eligibility or JoSAA counselling prospects.
What is Percentile?
Percentage of candidates who scored equal to or below you
Normalization Process
NTA uses percentile normalization for multi-session exams
100 Percentile
Multiple candidates can get 100 percentile
Preparation Rank
Allotment rank is different from percentile score
After Result - Next Steps
What you do in the days immediately following your result matters — candidates who qualify for JEE Advanced need to register within a short, strictly enforced window, and even those not attempting JEE Advanced should begin researching realistic college and branch options right away rather than waiting for JoSAA registration to formally open, since informed choice-filling later depends heavily on preparation done in advance.
