JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Dates

Complete schedule for JEE Advanced 2026 examination

JEE Advanced exam dates follow directly on from JEE Main's calendar, since eligibility for JEE Advanced is determined by JEE Main Session 2 results. In a typical year, the sequence runs from JEE Main result declaration, through a short JEE Advanced registration window (roughly a week to ten days), admit card release about a week before the exam, the exam itself (held on a single day across two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, with a break in between), followed by ORS (Optical Response Sheet) release, a provisional answer key with an objection window, and finally result declaration — typically within two weeks of the exam date. Because JEE Advanced is conducted only once a year by a single organizing IIT (unlike JEE Main's two-session, NTA-run structure), this entire cycle happens on a compressed and non-negotiable timeline compared to JEE Main.

The exam day itself is demanding by design — both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are compulsory and together span 6 hours with a lunch break, and your final rank is calculated from the aggregate of both papers rather than either paper individually, so consistent performance across the full day matters more than excelling in just one paper. Result declaration is followed almost immediately by the opening of JoSAA counselling registration, since JoSAA is the single centralized counselling process through which JEE Advanced qualifiers seek admission to IITs (and JEE Main qualifiers separately seek NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs) — so candidates should be mentally and logistically prepared to move into counselling mode very quickly after their JEE Advanced result is out, rather than treating the post-result period as a break before further action is needed.

Exam Schedule

Unlike JEE Main's shift-based structure spread across multiple days, JEE Advanced is held on a single day nationwide, with all candidates attempting Paper 1 in the morning session and Paper 2 in the afternoon session at the same time across all exam centres. This synchronized, single-day format is part of why exam-day stamina and pacing across both papers is worth practicing specifically through full-length mock tests rather than only solving each paper separately in isolation.

Paper 1

Time:9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Duration:3 Hours
Subjects:Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

Paper 2

Time:2:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Duration:3 Hours
Subjects:Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

Important Instructions

Because the entire JEE Advanced cycle — from registration to result — happens over roughly six to eight weeks each year, it pays to track every stage proactively rather than checking the official website only occasionally. Missing a narrow window, such as the answer key objection period or the JoSAA registration deadline that follows shortly after results, can have consequences that are far harder to reverse than simply staying on top of the published schedule.

Eligibility Reminder

Only candidates who rank among the top 2,50,182 in JEE Main 2026 (including all categories) are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2026.

This rank-based eligibility bar is announced by NTA along with JEE Main results and reflects the category-wise distribution of seats reserved for JEE Advanced. It's worth confirming your own eligibility status directly through your JEE Main scorecard rather than assuming based on approximate percentile alone, since the exact qualifying threshold can shift slightly year to year depending on total applicants and category-wise participation.

3
What is ORS in JEE Advanced?
ORS stands for Optical Response Sheet — the scanned copy of your actual answer sheet that you bubbled during the exam. NTA releases ORS after JEE Advanced so candidates can verify their responses. JEE Advanced 2026 ORS was made available on May 21, 2026 at jeeadv.ac.in. Candidates use ORS along with the provisional answer key to estimate their marks before the official result.
4
How many candidates appeared for JEE Advanced 2026?
A total of 1,79,694 candidates appeared for JEE Advanced 2026 out of the 2,50,182 who were eligible (top 2.5 lakh from JEE Main 2026), and 56,880 candidates qualified the exam. AIR 1 was secured by Shubham Kumar; Arohi Deshpande was the top female candidate with AIR 77.
5
What is the JEE Advanced 2026 exam pattern?
JEE Advanced 2026 consists of two papers — Paper 1 and Paper 2 — each of 3 hours duration. Both papers cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each paper has multiple sections with different question types: Single Correct MCQ, Multiple Correct MCQ, Numerical Answer Type (NAT), and Paragraph-based questions. There is partial marking for multiple correct questions and negative marking for incorrect single-choice answers.
6
When does JoSAA 2026 counselling start after JEE Advanced result?
JoSAA 2026 counselling started June 2, 2026 and has now concluded. Choice filling closed June 11. Round 1 allotment was released June 13, Round 2 on June 30, Round 3 on July 6, Round 4 on July 10, and Round 5 — the final round — was released July 16, 2026, after which remaining NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats move to CSAB Special Rounds. Check josaa.nic.in for your final allotment status.
7
What is the difference between JEE Advanced Paper 1 and Paper 2?
Both JEE Advanced papers cover the same three subjects — Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics — but with different question sets and section structures. Neither paper is easier than the other; they are designed to test different aspects of problem-solving. Both papers are compulsory — a candidate's rank is based on aggregate marks from Paper 1 + Paper 2 combined. Skipping either paper results in disqualification.
8
Can I use JEE Advanced 2026 score for admissions other than IITs?
JEE Advanced score is used exclusively for IIT admissions through JoSAA counselling. It is not used for NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs — those use JEE Main rank. However, a few institutions like IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology) and RGIPT use JEE Advanced scores for admission. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) accepts JEE Advanced qualifiers for its programmes.
