JEE Main 2026 Exam Dates

Official NTA Schedule - Session 1 (January 21-30, 2026) & Session 2 (April 2-8, 2026)

JEE Main exam dates follow a fairly consistent yearly rhythm set by the National Testing Agency (NTA), even though the specific calendar days shift slightly from year to year. Registration for Session 1 typically opens in late October or November, followed by the exam itself in January, with results usually declared within two to three weeks. Session 2 registration generally opens shortly after Session 1 concludes, with the exam held in April and results again following within a similar window. This two-session structure, in place since 2021, gives candidates the flexibility to attempt the exam twice in the same academic year and have NTA automatically consider their better percentile score for the final All India Rank used in JoSAA and CSAB counselling.

Beyond the exam dates themselves, the surrounding timeline matters just as much for planning — admit card release (roughly a week before each session), the provisional and final answer key release window (during which candidates can raise objections against specific questions, a process that can shift final results by a few marks or ranks), and the scorecard download deadline (after which NTA typically removes access from its portal) are all dates worth tracking closely rather than only focusing on the exam day itself. Missing the scorecard download window, for instance, can create real complications later if you need the document for admission verification and didn't save a copy in time.

Because dates are announced and occasionally revised by NTA through official notices, this page reflects the most recent publicly available schedule at the time of writing — always cross-check the live schedule on jeemain.nta.nic.in before making firm travel, study, or counselling plans around any specific date mentioned here.

Exam Day Schedule

Each JEE Main exam day typically runs two shifts to accommodate the large number of candidates nationwide, and your shift is allotted automatically along with your exam centre — you cannot choose or request a particular shift. Because different shifts have historically shown very marginal difficulty variation despite NTA's normalization process being designed specifically to neutralize this, arriving well before the reporting deadline and following the exact gate-closing time strictly (NTA does not permit entry even a few minutes late) is important regardless of which shift you're assigned.

Shift 1

Exam Time:9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Reporting Time:7:30 AM
Gate Closing:8:30 AM

Shift 2

Exam Time:3:00 PM - 6:00 PM

How to Fill Registration Form

Registration deadlines are strictly enforced by NTA — unlike some exam-day formalities where minor delays are occasionally accommodated, the registration window closes at the announced date and time with no extensions granted for individual candidates except in rare, officially announced cases (such as a technical outage on NTA's own servers). Completing registration a few days before the deadline rather than on the final day is a simple precaution against last-minute payment gateway failures or website slowdowns caused by high traffic near the closing date.

Important Instructions

Most of these instructions exist to prevent the two most common causes of application rejection or later complications: duplicate/multiple applications from one candidate, and document format errors that make verification difficult for NTA. Reading through NTA's official information bulletin once in full before you begin filling the form — rather than only skimming instructions field by field — tends to prevent the majority of avoidable mistakes.

Only ONE application form per candidate - multiple forms will lead to cancellation
Use your own or parent's email & mobile number for all communications
Upload documents as per NTA specifications (photograph, signature, etc.)
Pay registration fee separately for each session you apply for
Download admit card 3 days before the exam from official website only
Carry valid photo ID proof (Aadhar/PAN/Passport) along with admit card
Electronic devices (phones, calculators, watches) are strictly prohibited
