BITSAT is the entrance test BITS Pilani runs itself. It is a sole-gateway exam: there is no JEE Main route, no management quota and no reservation for these seats.
About BITSAT
BITSAT is the BITS Admission Test, a computer-based exam conducted by BITS Pilani for its integrated first degree programmes: B.E., four-year M.Sc. and B.Pharm. A single score covers the Pilani, K K Birla Goa and Hyderabad campuses, and BITS does not accept JEE Main scores for these seats. It suits Class 12 students with strong Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology for B.Pharm) who can handle a fast paper of 130 questions in three hours. Candidates may take up to two sessions and the better score counts. Registration for the 2027 cycle is expected from December 2026 but has not been officially notified.

What BITSAT is
BITSAT stands for BITS Admission Test. BITS Pilani conducts it as a computer-based online test for admission to its integrated first degree programmes: B.E., four-year integrated M.Sc. and B.Pharm. The same score is used for all three Indian campuses (Pilani in Rajasthan, K K Birla Goa and Hyderabad), so you take one test and one application covers every campus.
The official portal describes the process as fully merit based and computer driven, with no management quota and no alternate entry route. BITS also states that it does not consider JEE Main scores for these programmes.
Why BITSAT matters
BITS Pilani is an Institution of Eminence and a deemed university, and its Pilani campus is among the most sought-after private engineering destinations. Because admission is by BITSAT alone, a strong score is the only thing that opens these seats, irrespective of your JEE Main or JEE Advanced result.
The test is built for speed. A good student is expected to finish all 130 questions in the 180 minutes, and the optional 12 bonus questions are meant to let top scorers pull ahead.

How admission works
Taking BITSAT is only step one. After the test, you must separately submit an admission application with your Class 12 marks and a ranked list of programme and campus preferences. BITS then builds a merit list from BITSAT scores and allots seats over several iterations, with waiting-list movement and the option to slide up to a higher preference. Details are in the Counselling tab.
Admission form is separate
A BITSAT score alone does not get you a seat. Candidates who skip the admission application with Class 12 marks and preferences are not placed on the merit list.

Frequently asked questions
Is BITSAT the same as JEE Main?
No. BITSAT is conducted by BITS Pilani for its own seats. BITS states that JEE Main scores are not considered, and BITSAT scores are not used for IITs, NITs or IIITs.
Which BITS campuses take BITSAT scores?
Pilani, K K Birla Goa and Hyderabad. Dubai has its own admission page on bits-dubai.ac.ae, and the Mumbai campus houses the BITSoM management school.
Is the BITSAT 2027 notification out?
Not yet as of 18 October 2026. The official portal currently shows the 2026-27 cycle as closed. Registration is widely expected from December 2026 on the 2026 pattern, but that is an expectation, not an announcement.
What is the BITSAT 2026 exam pattern?
130 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours: Physics 30, Chemistry 30, English 10, Logical Reasoning 20 and Mathematics 40 (or Biology for B.Pharm. and related programmes). Each correct answer earns 3 marks and each wrong answer loses 1, for a maximum of 390.
How many bonus questions are there and how do they work?
Twelve extra questions, three each from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology and Logical Reasoning. They open only if you attempt all 130 questions and time remains. Once you opt in, you cannot revisit the earlier answers. Maximum possible score becomes 426.
What is the BITSAT eligibility?
75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (or Biology for B.Pharm. and Env. and Sustainability Engg.) with at least 60% in each subject, from a recognised Class 12 board, with Class 12 passed in 2025 or appearing in 2026 for the last cycle.
How much is the BITSAT application fee?
For BITSAT 2026 it was Rs 3,600 for males and Rs 3,100 for females for one session, and Rs 5,600 and Rs 4,600 for both sessions. Dubai centre fees were higher.
Can I take BITSAT twice?

Is there a BITSAT rank list?
BITS ranks candidates by score for admission and does not publish a public percentile. Your score is shown at the end of the test.
When is BITSAT 2027?
Official dates have not been announced as of 18 October 2026. The 2026 cycle suggests registration from December, Session 1 in April and Session 2 in May.
How many seats does BITS offer?
BITS does not publish fixed seat numbers in the pages we could read. It describes seats as ratios between programmes and says total admissions vary each year.
Are BITSAT mock papers available from BITS?
No. BITS states it does not provide model question papers or past papers.
