BITSAT 2027 Eligibility
Updated on 18 October 2026 · Compiled from official Birla Institute of Technology and Science notices
Eligibility is based on Class 12 marks in the core subjects, the year you passed, and your current enrolment status. These are the BITSAT-2026 rules.
Qualification and marks
- Class 12 must be from a recognised Central or State board (or an equivalent qualification) under the 10+2 system.
- You need at least five subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, one language and one additional subject.
- PCB candidates may take BITSAT but can apply only for B.Pharm. and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engg. M.Sc. Biological Sciences also allows PCB but dual-degree choices are limited. PCB candidates should have Class 10 level mathematics.
| Programme | Required subjects | Minimum marks |
|---|---|---|
| B.E. (except Environmental and Sustainability Engg.) and M.Sc. | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) | 75% aggregate in PCM and at least 60% in each subject |
| B.Pharm. and B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engg. | Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics | 75% aggregate and at least 60% in each subject |
Only marks in the core subjects count, with theory and practical combined. 74.90% rounded to 75% is not accepted; the FAQ says such a candidate is not eligible.
Year of passing and attempts
- BITSAT 2026 accepted students who appeared in Class 12 in 2026 or passed it in 2025. Those who passed in 2024 or earlier were not eligible.
- A candidate may take BITSAT at most twice in a cycle (Session 1 and Session 2). Candidates with a past BITSAT can apply again in a later year if they meet the year-of-passing rule.
- Results must be available by the submission deadline (1 June 2026), with a later date (10 July 2026) for candidates whose boards had not declared results.
Special cases
- Improvement or repeat exams: the latest performance counts, and your 'Pass' status must not change. If you improve only some subjects, submit both marksheets.
- NIOS: eligible if you appeared in all components of the Class 12 examination.
- CAIE and IB: required subjects must be at A Level and Higher Level respectively.
- Foreign nationals and NRIs: holders of foreign passports apply through the separate International Students Admission (ISA) scheme using SAT scores; OCI cardholders can use either route.
- Students currently enrolled at any BITS campus cannot apply, and candidates now studying a B.Sc., B.E. or diploma elsewhere having passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier are not eligible.
- There is no age limit stated for BITSAT, no reservation and no management quota.
Direct admission to board toppers
Separately from BITSAT, BITS offers direct admission to students ranked first in their central or state board (science stream, PCM or PCB) irrespective of BITSAT score, subject to the board's confirmation and the Institute's tie-breaking rules. Applications under this scheme closed on 30 June in 2026.
Frequently asked questions
