About NERIST and the NEE
NERIST was set up in 1983 for the North-Eastern region and became a Deemed-to-be-University in 2005. It is funded by the Ministry of Education and is residential. Admission to the institute is not through JEE Main and JoSAA; candidates apply separately to NERIST and take NEE.
NEE is held at three levels. The brochure says the notification is published in January and the exam is held in April every year, at centres in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and West Bengal.
The three levels
| Level | Qualification | Leads to | Paper code |

How the modular system works
The technology stream has a Certificate module of two years after Class 10 and a Degree module. A Certificate student who reaches a CGPA of 6.50 out of 10 can move up to the four-year degree module, which gives a degree in six years after Class 10. Students admitted through NEE-II take 4 years; NEE-III lateral entrants take 3 years.
The brochure lists no minimum JEE Main score or other national exam for admission. NEE alone decides the merit.
