What WBJEE is

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) was set up in 1962 and is authorised under the West Bengal Act XIV of 2014 to run common entrance tests and the online counselling that follows. WBJEE is its flagship test: a one-time, OMR-based examination with two papers, Paper I (Mathematics) and Paper II (Physics and Chemistry).

The test is for admission to UG courses in engineering, technology, pharmacy and architecture for the coming academic session. Appearing and getting a rank does not guarantee a seat. Seat allotment depends on the counselling rules in force at that time.

Why WBJEE matters

  • It is the main route into Jadavpur University, the University of Calcutta technology campuses, and the large pool of MAKAUT-affiliated and private engineering colleges in the state.
  • Seats are also reserved for SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, EWS, PwD and Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) candidates under West Bengal government rules.
  • Up to 10 percent of approved seats in self-financed engineering and technology colleges in West Bengal can be filled through JEE Main scores, as per the 2026 bulletin, so WBJEE and JEE Main run in parallel for those colleges.

How admission works

After the result, WBJEEB publishes a separate counselling notification. Candidates register online, fill and lock choices of institute and course, and are allotted seats strictly by General Merit Rank (or Pharmacy Merit Rank for pharmacy), category and choice order. Selected candidates pay the seat acceptance fee and report to the allotted institute for document verification.

WBJEEB also conducts other entrance tests such as JENPAS UG for nursing, paramedical and allied health courses. These are separate exams with their own bulletins and ranks, and this page is about the engineering, pharmacy and architecture WBJEE.

Frequently asked questions

Is WBJEE only for West Bengal students?

Any Indian citizen (and OCI candidates, for unreserved All India quota seats only) can appear. Reservation and many state-quota benefits, however, need West Bengal domicile as defined in the bulletin.

Does WBJEE publish a rank list?

No. The Board does not release a public rank list. Each candidate downloads a personal rank card with scores and ranks by logging in.

Is WBJEE the same as JENPAS UG?

No. JENPAS UG is a separate WBJEEB test for nursing, paramedical and allied health sciences. WBJEE is for engineering, technology, pharmacy and architecture.

What is WBJEE?

WBJEE is the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination for admission to UG engineering, technology, pharmacy and architecture courses in the state, run by WBJEEB.

When will WBJEE 2027 be held?

The 2027 date has not been announced. The 2026 exam was on 24 May 2026 and the bulletin placed it tentatively in April to May. Follow wbjeeb.nic.in.

How much is the WBJEE application fee?

For 2026 it was ₹500 for general male candidates, ₹400 for general female, and ₹300 for general third gender. Reserved categories paid ₹400, ₹300 and ₹200 respectively.

What is the WBJEE exam pattern?

Two OMR papers: Maths (75 questions, 100 marks) and Physics plus Chemistry (40 questions each, 50 marks each). Total 155 questions and 200 marks.

Is there negative marking?

Yes: 1/4 mark off for wrong Category 1 answers and 1/2 mark off for Category 2. Category 3 has none.

What marks do I need in Class 12 to apply?

Generally 45 percent in the three required subjects (40 percent for SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B and PwD), but some universities require more.

Is West Bengal domicile compulsory?

Not to appear. It is needed for reserved category benefits and state quota seats, per the bulletin's definition.

How is the WBJEE rank decided?

GMR is based on total score in both papers, and PMR on Paper II. Ties are broken by negative marks, 2-mark question performance, date of birth and application number.

Does WBJEE release a rank list?

No. Only individual rank cards are available through login.

Can I use JEE Main instead of WBJEE?

Up to 10 percent of seats in self-financed engineering colleges in West Bengal are available via JEE Main scores. Most other seats need WBJEE.

Which colleges accept WBJEE?

Jadavpur University, University of Calcutta technology campuses, MAKAUT-affiliated colleges and many private universities in West Bengal.

Is JENPAS UG the same as WBJEE?

No. It is a separate WBJEEB exam for nursing, paramedical and allied health courses.
