WBJEE has no fixed pass mark. The Board sets a qualifying rank or score each year, and college closing ranks change every round.
Qualifying cutoff
The bulletin says rank cards are issued to every candidate but only those above the cutoff rank or score set by the Board are awarded a rank and can join counselling. We could not verify a category-wise qualifying figure for 2026 from an official document, so none is quoted here. Third-party sites report conflicting counts of qualified candidates.
How cutoffs are used in admission
- Seat allotment follows General Merit Rank (or PMR for pharmacy), then the candidate's category and choice order.
- Each institute and course effectively has opening and closing ranks per category for every round.
- Closing ranks for reserved categories are higher (less competitive) than for open, but category ranks are not used for sequencing. Only GMR or PMR is.

How to read opening and closing ranks
Opening rank is the best rank allotted a seat in a given course and category. Closing rank is the last rank allotted. A rank slightly worse than last year's closing rank has a lower chance, and a rank well inside it has a safe chance. Use at least two or three years of data and treat them only as guides, because seat matrices, new colleges and reservation orders change.
WBJEEB publishes the seat matrix (and the previous year's matrix) before counselling, and round-wise allotment results on its site. Use these official figures when making your choice list.
