WBJEE 2027 Exam Pattern

Updated on 18 October 2026 · Compiled from official West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board notices

WBJEE has two papers answered on an OMR sheet. The pattern below is from the 2026 bulletin and may change in 2027, so confirm it in the new bulletin.

Paper-wise structure

Paper I (Mathematics) ran from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and Paper II (Physics and Chemistry) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on 24 May 2026. Each paper is 2 hours.

Marking scheme

In Category 3 the marks for a partially correct answer, with no wrong option marked, are 2 multiplied by the number of correct options marked and divided by the total number of correct options. Marking even one wrong option gives zero for that question.

CategoryCorrectIncorrectNotes
Category 1+1-1/4One correct option. Multiple options marked counts as wrong.
Category 2+2-1/2One correct option. Multiple options marked counts as wrong.
Category 3+20One or more correct options. Partial credit applies when only correct options are marked.

Unattempted questions score zero.

Mode, language and answering rules

  • All questions are multiple choice. Responses go on an OMR sheet with the blue or black ballpoint pen supplied by the Board.
  • Question papers are bilingual in English and Bengali.
  • Fill the bubble completely. Pencil, tick marks, cross marks, overwriting, erasing or white fluid can damage the reading and may lead to cancellation of the OMR sheet.
  • Answers cannot be edited or erased once marked.

Which papers you must take

Candidates appearing in both papers get a General Merit Rank and a Pharmacy Merit Rank. Candidates who appear only in Paper II get a Pharmacy Merit Rank only, and can be considered for pharmacy courses only (except at Jadavpur University). Candidates who appear only in Paper I are not eligible for any rank.

Time strategy

Maths carries half of the 200 marks and is usually the most demanding. Because Category 3 has no negative marking and allows partial credit, attempt those questions even when unsure of all options.

Frequently asked questions
