UPTAC is not an entrance exam. It is the AKTU-run online counselling that allots B.Tech and other technical seats in Uttar Pradesh, using JEE Main ranks for engineering (UPSEE no longer exists). This hub covers the dates, fees, eligibility, rounds and documents.

UPTAC is the centralised counselling for technical seats in Uttar Pradesh. It replaced the old UPSEE entrance test route, so engineering seats are now allotted on JEE Main performance.
About UPTAC
UPTAC is the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling, run online by AKTU, Lucknow. It is not an entrance exam. It allots B.Tech and other technical seats in Uttar Pradesh colleges using the JEE Main rank for engineering, while B.Arch uses NATA, and the old UPSEE no longer exists. It suits students who want a state-level engineering seat after JEE Main, including as a backup to JoSAA. The 2026 cycle had four regular rounds, an internal sliding round and two special rounds, and an APAAR ID was mandatory. The 2027 schedule is not announced, and dates shown are expectations based on 2026 and JEE Main timing.

What UPTAC actually is
UPTAC stands for Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling. AKTU, the state technical university in Lucknow, runs it each year for admission to its affiliated institutions.
There is no UPTAC paper. For B.Tech you must have taken JEE Main (conducted by NTA), and your rank decides your place in the allotment. B.Arch uses NATA, and some other courses take CUET UG, but only if you chose AKTU in your CUET application.
UPSEE, the former state entrance test, was discontinued; the earlier UPSEE name still appears in older pages and search queries.
Portal change to Samarth
For 2026, AKTU moved UPTAC to uptac.samarth.edu.in. The older uptac.admissions.nic.in site now shows a notice redirecting visitors there and keeps the earlier opening and closing rank data.
