Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC)
UPTAC is not an entrance exam. It is the AKTU-run online counselling that allots B.Tech and other technical seats in Uttar Pradesh, using JEE Main ranks for engineering (UPSEE no longer exists). This hub covers the dates, fees, eligibility, rounds and documents.

- Online counselling (online registration, choice filling and reporting, with physical document verification at the allotted institute)
- Frequency
- Once a year (4 regular rounds, an internal sliding round and special rounds)

- About 3.5 months from registration to the last special round (25 May to early September in 2026)

Academic qualification
- Passed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics.
- One more subject from Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or a technical vocational subject.
- At least 45% aggregate marks, or 40% for SC/ST.
- Must have taken JEE Main for B.Tech; B.Arch candidates need NATA.
Age and attempts
There is no age limit. Attempts do not matter since only your rank counts.
Domicile
Uttar Pradesh domicile candidates get Home State seats. Candidates who passed the qualifying exam outside UP must upload their parents' domicile certificate at registration and again at physical reporting.
Seat share: per the 2026 Information Brochure, 100% of first-year seats in government, government-aided and government self-financed institutes and 85% of seats in private colleges are filled through UPTAC counselling. The remaining 15% of private seats are Management/NRI quota, filled by the institute. The 85/15 figure is therefore a counselling versus management split, not a Home State versus Other State split.
Reservation
UPTAC follows Uttar Pradesh reservation policy for Home State seats. Exact percentages per category are in the Information Brochure and are not repeated here.
Special cases
- CUET route: only candidates who chose AKTU in their CUET application can use it.
- Special rounds: open to candidates with JEE Main 2026, CUET UG 2026 or Class 12 qualification.
- Lateral entry and pharmacy have separate notifications.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need JEE Main?
Yes, for B.Tech through the regular rounds. Special rounds may accept other routes.
