BITSAT 2027 Counselling

Updated on 18 October 2026 · Compiled from official Birla Institute of Technology and Science notices

BITS runs its own centralised admission process across all three campuses. It is preference based, iterative and merit driven, and does not use JoSAA or any state counselling.

Step-by-step process

  1. 1

    Take BITSAT

Appear in Session 1, Session 2 or both. Your higher score is used.

  2. 2

    Submit the admission application

Fill the FD preference form with Class 12 marks, upload your marksheet and rank your programme and campus choices. In 2026 this closed on 1 June.

  3. 3

    Merit list is prepared

BITS ranks eligible, fee-paid applicants by BITSAT score and applies the tie-breaking order.

  4. 4

    Iteration list

In each iteration, a fresh allotment runs from the top of the merit list. Candidates get an admit offer, a waiting-list position or nothing for their preferences.

  5. 5

    Accept by paying fees

You must pay the advance fees within the deadline to hold an offer. In 2026, Iteration I was announced on 20 June with a payment deadline of 26 June.

  6. 6

    Slide up or freeze

After accepting, you can remain in the race for higher preferences or lock your seat using a freeze option.

  7. 7

    Report to the campus

Selected candidates reported for document verification, biometrics and orientation on 28-30 July 2026.

Rules that decide your outcome

  • Preferences cannot be changed after submission. Their order stays fixed through all iterations.
  • Seats are allotted starting from the top of the merit list, trying the first preference, then the second and so on.
  • Waiting list is for admission to the Institute, not to a particular programme, so no programme-wise waiting number is given.
  • Crossing out a programme removes you from the waiting list of that programme too.
  • Freeze (lock programme and campus) and Freeze the Campus (keep chasing higher choices within the same campus) are final and irreversible and carry a nominal fee of about Rs 10-11.
  • BITS may offer admission to more candidates than seats, expecting withdrawals.
