Marks per part follow from +3 per question. The brochure lists question counts; the total of 390 is stated in the official cutoff tables.

Marking scheme

  • Correct answer: +3 marks.
  • Incorrect answer: -1 mark.
  • Unattempted: 0 marks. Attempting every question is not mandatory.
  • Only one option can be selected per question, and each question has four options.

Bonus questions

If you answer all 130 questions without skipping any, you can opt for 12 extra questions if time remains. They come from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology and Logical Reasoning, three from each, none from English. They use the same +3 and -1 marking, so the top possible score is 426.

One-way door

Once you opt for the bonus questions you cannot return to change any of the earlier 130 answers. Negative marking applies, so guessing is risky.

Test conditions

  • Duration is 3 hours without a break and there is no time limit for individual parts; you can move between questions and change answers among the 130.
  • Question sets are drawn at random from a large question bank, so candidates get different papers of comparable difficulty. Questions found ambiguous after the sessions are moderated, with credit given to affected candidates.
  • The language of the test is English only.
  • Calculators, mobile phones, log tables and electronic devices are prohibited. A scratch pad is provided and must be returned. Carry a pen for signing.
  • Fingerprint and photograph are captured at the test centre and matched again at admission.
  • At the end of the test, you must enter your displayed marks before logging out.

Notes for each part

Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are Class 11 and 12 level, with NCERT recommended for the content. English Proficiency tests grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and composition. Logical Reasoning is split into verbal and non-verbal tasks.

Many websites still quote the older pattern of 150 questions with 450 marks. The BITSAT-2026 brochure states 130 questions and 390 marks, which also matches the 'out of 390' scale in the official cutoff tables.
