CAP Round 2 – Step-by-Step Process

Check Round 2 Eligibility

Confirm you chose Float or Slide in Round 1, or were unallotted. Only these candidates participate in Round 2 automatically.

Choice Modification Window (if available)

If DTE opens a choice modification window, add new colleges or reorder existing preferences to maximize upgrade chances.

Check CAP Round 2 Allotment Result

Log in to dtemaharashtra.gov.in on the allotment result date. Your new allotted seat (or retained Round 1 seat) will be displayed.

Compare Allotted Seat with Round 1

Verify if you received an upgrade. If yes, decide whether to Freeze (confirm upgrade) or Float (try for Round 3).

Pay Round 2 Seat Acceptance Fee

Pay the acceptance fee for Round 2 allotted seat within the deadline. This confirms your participation is continued for Round 3 if you chose Float.

Download Round 2 Allotment Letter

Download the updated allotment letter from the portal. If you chose Freeze in Round 2, proceed to document verification.

Report to Institute (if Freeze in Round 2)

Candidates who Freeze in Round 2 must report to the newly allotted institute for document verification and admission completion.

Who is eligible for MHT-CET 2026 CAP Round 2?

Candidates who chose Float or Slide in CAP Round 1, and candidates who were not allotted a seat in Round 1, are eligible for CAP Round 2. If you chose Freeze in Round 1 and paid the acceptance fee, you are NOT eligible for Round 2 — your admission is final. Candidates who did not pay the acceptance fee in Round 1 may lose their allotment and may or may not be eligible for Round 2 depending on DTE Maharashtra rules.

Will my Round 1 seat be retained if I participate in Round 2?

Yes. If you chose Float or Slide in Round 1 and paid the acceptance fee, your current allotted seat is retained as a fallback. If Round 2 allots you a higher-priority seat, your seat automatically upgrades. If no better option is available, you keep your Round 1 seat. You never go 'backwards' in the upgrade process.

Can I add new college choices before CAP Round 2?

DTE Maharashtra typically opens a brief choice modification window between rounds. Candidates eligible for Round 2 may be allowed to add or reorder choices before Round 2 allotment. Check the official CAP schedule on dtemaharashtra.gov.in for exact dates of this window. It is advisable to add colleges you may have missed during Round 1 choice filling.

What happens if I get an upgrade in CAP Round 2?

If you received an upgrade in Round 2, you had to pay the acceptance fee for the new allotted seat. If you were already paying fees for the Round 1 seat, you paid the difference or a new fee depending on DTE Maharashtra's payment structure. Choosing Float again in Round 2 made you eligible for Round 3 (and subsequently Round 4, the final round) if you wanted another possible upgrade.
