Choice filling is the most important step in MHT-CET CAP. Your allotment depends entirely on the order in which you fill choices. Always lock your choices before the deadline. Unlocked choices will not be considered for allotment.

How to Fill Choices on DTE Maharashtra Portal – Step by Step

Log in to DTE Portal

Visit dtemaharashtra.gov.in and log in with your CAP application number and password. Navigate to 'Choice Filling' section.

Browse Available Institutes & Courses

Use the search/filter feature to browse colleges by district, type (Government/Aided/Private), and branch. Check seat availability and category.

Research Each College

Before adding a college, check previous year cutoffs on MHT-CET previous cutoff pages, NIRF rankings, placement records, and fee structure.

Add Choices in Priority Order

Add your dream colleges first (highest priority = top of list). Add safe options towards the bottom. Include both Home University and State Level seats for each college.

Fill Across Multiple Branches

Do not fill only CSE. Add IT, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical branches at top colleges — they often have lower cutoffs and good career prospects.

Aim for 100+ Choices

Fill as many as 100–200 choices for maximum chances. More choices = higher probability of a good allotment.

How many choices should I fill in MHT-CET 2026 CAP?
DTE Maharashtra allows filling up to 300 choices (institute-course combinations). You should ideally fill at least 50–100 choices to maximize your chances. Students with high percentiles (above 99) should fill 30–50 carefully chosen preferences. Students with percentiles between 90–98 should aim for 80–150 choices including safe options. Lower percentile students should fill as many choices as possible across multiple districts and branches.

For 99.5+ percentile: Focus on VJTI (all branches), COEP Pune (all branches), ICT Mumbai, SPIT, PICT Pune CSE/IT. Should I add VJTI and COEP even if my percentile is average?
Adding VJTI, COEP, or ICT to your choice list costs nothing extra. However, be realistic — with an average percentile, focus your top slots on achievable colleges and add dream colleges lower in priority (or rather higher number in preference). The CAP allotment algorithm gives you the highest-priority choice your rank can achieve, so it is always beneficial to add aspirational choices at the top of your list.

What is the difference between Home University and State Level quota in choice filling?
Each college seat is designated as either Home University quota (for candidates whose Class 12 was from a specific university board region) or State Level (open to all Maharashtra candidates). When filling choices, you will see both seat types for the same college. Home University seats typically have better chances for local students as competition is lower. Always add both Home University and State Level seats for your target colleges.
