| Sections | Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics in each paper |
| Duration | 3 hours each; 4 hours each with compensatory time |

| Total marks | Reported as 360 (180 per paper); not stated in the brochure |
Marking scheme
The brochure only says that negative marks may be awarded for some questions and that the scheme is shown in the Instructions to Candidates at the time of the exam. Third-party sources broadly report single-correct questions at +3 / -1, numerical answer questions at +4 with no negative marking, and multiple-correct questions with partial marking, but they disagree on the negative mark for multiple-correct questions (-1 or -2), on matching-type marks and on question counts.
Treat these as unconfirmed. Read the sample instructions in the Resources section of jeeadv.ac.in and the mock tests there.
Dropped questions
If a question is dropped, full marks for it are awarded to all candidates, whether or not it carries negative marking.
How the test works on screen
- Log in with your roll number and date of birth in ddmmyyyy format.
- The keyboard is disabled; numeric answers are typed on an on-screen keypad with the mouse.
- You can switch between sections, questions and languages at any time, and change answers until time ends.
- A question marked for review without an answer is not evaluated; one that is answered and marked is evaluated.
- One scribble pad is given per paper and must be left behind.
- If your computer fails, you get another system and the lost time is adjusted.
Architecture Aptitude Test
The AAT is a single three-hour paper, in English only, held in India at all zonal IITs. You bring your own drawing and colouring aids. Only JEE Advanced qualified candidates can appear. The test is pass or fail; there is no separate AAT rank.
