What Happens at the Exam Centre
When you arrive at the JEE Advanced exam centre, you will be assigned a computer workstation. The exam runs on a local server — you do not need internet connectivity. Your answers are saved on the server. You can navigate between questions, mark them for review, and change answers until time runs out.
A scribble pad (rough paper) is provided for calculations. You cannot take this home. The interface has a clear display of: the question text (with diagrams if needed), answer options or a text box for numerical answers, a question palette showing status (answered/not answered/marked for review), and a countdown timer.
Practice Before the Exam
IITs provide a mock test portal for JEE Advanced CBT practice at jeeadv.ac.in. All registered candidates can access this before the exam. It is strongly recommended to attempt at least 2–3 full mock tests on the computer interface to get comfortable with the navigation, especially for numerical answer questions where you need to type values.
Advantages of CBT Mode
The CBT format has several benefits for candidates: you can easily review and change answers before submitting, the question palette shows at a glance which questions are pending, there is no risk of OMR sheet filling errors, and results can be processed and declared faster (typically within 2–3 weeks of the exam).
