I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) B.Tech admission counselling
IKGPTU does not hold its own entrance test for B.Tech. Under the Punjab Government notification for 2026-27 it runs the online centralised counselling jointly with MRSPTU, and seats go on inter-se merit of the qualifying Class 12 examination. Because merit comes from JEE Main or Class 12 marks, preparation is about scoring well in those.
Plan
- Keep Class 12 marks strong, since merit is inter-se merit of the qualifying examination.
- Prepare JEE Main with NCERT and mock tests if you also want JoSAA or other state options.
- Get residence and category certificates ready early.
Choice filling
Study last year's allotment data on the portal and fill a long list ordered by true preference with a few safe options.
Which result to improve
IKGPTU has no entrance test, so your effort goes to your Class 12 result. Keep marks in the eligible subjects above 45 percent (40 percent for reserved categories). JEE Main remains useful for JoSAA and other state counselling.
Document checklist and back-ups
- Get the residence certificate early if you want the Punjab quota.
- Keep category, migration and Class 10 date of birth proofs scanned and ready.
- Track JoSAA and CSAB too, and compare other state counselling options if IKGPTU colleges do not match your rank.
- Prepare for all three rounds and college-level admission rather than relying on one chance.
