Nationality and residency
The candidate must be a citizen of India and a permanent resident of Tripura. Either the candidate or a parent must have lived in Tripura continuously for at least 10 years immediately before applying. A Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) must be produced at counselling when asked; a citizenship certificate is not accepted instead of it.
Special residency cases
- Children of All India Services officers of the Manipur-Tripura cadre, and children of Tripura state government employees posted outside Tripura, can appear regardless of prior stay in the state.
- Children of an officer on deputation to the Tripura government or of a central government officer working in Tripura who has served there continuously for 3 years or more, if the candidate has passed or is appearing in Class 12 from an institution in Tripura.
- Wards of ex-servicemen: the candidate or parents must have stayed in Tripura continuously for at least 5 years before applying.
- Children of serving defence personnel hailing from Tripura: 5 years of continuous stay in Tripura and Class 12 from an institution in Tripura.
Educational qualification
The candidate must have passed, appeared or be due to appear in the year of the entrance exam at the Higher Secondary (Class 12) examination of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, ICSE or an equivalent board, with the subjects in which he or she wants to appear in TJEE.
To get a seat, the candidate must have passed Class 12 with a separate pass in theory and practical for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology as applicable. Someone who fails Physics or Chemistry is not eligible for a seat through TBJEE counselling. Candidates with a compartment subject can register for counselling but are considered only in later rounds after submitting an improved mark sheet.
Age, previous seat and reservation
- There is no upper age limit for appearing in TJEE, according to the prospectus FAQ.
- If you were allotted a seat through TJEE earlier, you cannot appear again unless you surrendered that seat in writing within the stated time.
- Reservation applies for SC, ST, PwD and wards of ex-servicemen as per the Tripura reservation act. The prospectus FAQ states there is no reservation for OBC candidates in TJEE.
- Individual institutions set their own minimum marks. For example, the 2026 PCM seat matrix listed 45 percent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for UR and 40 percent for SC and ST for several B.Tech seats.
