Your preparation for JAC is really preparation for JEE Main plus good paperwork, because merit is the JEE Main All India Rank.
Before counselling opens
- Get your category, Chandigarh Quota, EWS and PwD certificates ready in the correct format.
- Scan every document clearly, with a photograph and signature that meet the size rules.
- Study the previous year closing ranks of each institute.
- Keep your JEE Main application number and password handy.
Check eligibility early
The 2026 bulletin sets no separate minimum percentage for B.E./B.Tech beyond JEE Main eligibility, but B.Arch needs 45 percent. Keep Rs 2,800 (General and OBC) or Rs 1,400 (SC, ST and PwD) ready for the non-refundable counselling fee, and plan for the Rs 40,000 seat acceptance fee after allotment.
During counselling
- Fill a long choice list in the order of your real preference.
- Keep track of JoSAA dates, since you may need to decide between seats.
- Pay fees and withdraw only before the stated deadlines.
Using the five rounds
The 2026 schedule had five rounds: three regular, one special and one spot round. Accept a seat you are happy with in an early round and keep your choices for upgrade, rather than waiting for the spot round, where the best branches in UIET and CCET rarely remain.
Back-up options
Treat JAC Chandigarh as a parallel option to JoSAA and CSAB. If your JEE Main rank is strong, your JoSAA seat is usually the better one, so compare branch and institute carefully before paying a non-refundable fee.
