What is JEE Main City Intimation Slip?

The JEE Main City Intimation Slip is a preliminary document that tells candidates their exam city (not the exact centre) before the admit card. In 2026 it was scheduled roughly three weeks before each session. NTA has not announced JEE Main 2027 dates or registration yet, so the 2027 timing is expected to be similar but unconfirmed.

How to Use the City Intimation Slip

Once you download the city intimation slip and know your exam city, immediately book accommodation if you need to travel from another city. JEE Main exam days have high demand for nearby hotels and PGs — early booking saves money and ensures proximity to the exam centre. Book refundable accommodations in case your exact centre (on admit card) turns out to be in a different part of the city.

The city intimation slip itself is not required for exam entry — the admit card (hall ticket) is what you must carry to the exam centre. Do not mistake the city intimation slip for the admit card and arrive without the proper documents.

City Allotment Rules (2026 Bulletin)

Candidates could choose up to four exam cities within the States of their present and permanent address. NTA tries to allot one of them, but can merge cities with few candidates or allot a different city, and its decision is final. For choosing well, read how to select your exam city. Your state of eligibility is separate; see the state code of eligibility guide.

JEE Main 2027 Expectations

NTA has not opened JEE Main 2027 registration or released the 2027 bulletin. When it does, the city intimation slip dates will appear in the bulletin schedule and on our exam city slip release page. Plan using the JEE Main 2027 exam dates and the application form guide. Candidates with disabilities should also read registration for PwD and scribe, and NRI or foreign candidates the NRI and foreign candidates guide.

Documents to Carry on Exam Day

The 2026 bulletin says candidates must show the downloaded or printed admit card on demand, along with an authorized photo ID, and that candidates without a valid admit card and ID are not permitted to take the exam. Follow the exact instructions printed on your admit card for the photo and ID list, and the prohibited items. Under no circumstances can the choice of city or shift on the admit card be changed.

Frequently Asked Questions

More questions about JEE Main city intimation slip and admit card

1
Is the city intimation slip the same as the JEE Main admit card?
No. The city intimation slip is a preliminary document that tells you the city where your exam will be held. In the 2026 cycle the bulletin scheduled it for the first week of January 2026 (Session 1, exams 21-30 January) and the second week of March 2026 (Session 2, exams 2-9 April), both tentative. The admit card came 3-4 days before the exam and carries the exact date, shift and centre. JEE Main 2027 dates are not announced.
2
Can I change my exam city after the city intimation slip is released?
Generally no. The 2026 bulletin says NTA tries to allot one of the cities chosen in the application (up to four choices within your State of present or permanent address), but may allot a different city for administrative reasons, and its decision is final. Choose carefully at registration; see our exam city selection guide.
3
What is the purpose of the city intimation slip?
The city intimation slip is released ahead of the admit card so that candidates who need to travel get extra time to book accommodation and transport. The admit card is available only 3-4 days before the exam (2026 bulletin).
4
How do I download the JEE Main city intimation slip?
Go to jeemain.nta.nic.in and open the city intimation slip link when NTA activates it. Log in with your Application Number and Date of Birth or password, as NTA specifies at that time. The slip shows the exam city; the exact centre address is on the admit card. The 2027 process is not yet announced.
5
What if my city intimation slip shows a different city than I chose?
The 2026 bulletin states NTA may allot a city other than your choice, for example when a city has very few candidates and is merged, or for administrative or logistic reasons, and that its decision is final. You can contact the NTA helpline (011-40759000) for queries.
