JEE Main 2027 Application Form Correction Window
What you could edit, what stayed locked, when extra fee applied and how the one-time rule worked in the last cycle, so you can fill the 2027 form right the first time.
What the Correction Window Is
Once the registration deadline passes, NTA does not leave the application form permanently frozen. It opens a short, separate window in which candidates log in with their application number and password and fix selected details. The window is not a second chance to register, and it is not open-ended: in the 2025-26 cycle it lasted just two days per session.
As of mid-October 2026, NTA has not opened JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration or released the Information Bulletin. Everything below describes how the facility worked for JEE Main 2026 and should be read as the likely pattern, not an official 2027 rule. Two sources are official: the JEE (Main) 2026 Information Bulletin and NTA's 2026 FAQs, which establish that a correction window exists, is notified later, covers only certain fields and is one-time. The exact dates and field lists are from NTA's public notices as reported by news sites; we could not open the notice PDFs themselves. The final word will be the notice on jeemain.nta.nic.in. If you have not yet got your login details sorted, read our guide on login, password and application number recovery first, because you cannot use the window without them.
How the Timing Worked in 2025-26
| Item | Session 1 (2026 cycle) | Session 2 (2026 cycle) |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | 31 Oct to 27 Nov 2025 | 1 to 25 Feb 2026 |
| Correction window | 1 and 2 Dec 2025 | 27 and 28 Feb 2026 |
| Window closed at | 11:50 pm on the last day | 11:50 pm on the last day |
| Gap after registration closed | Four days (27 Nov to 1 Dec) | Two days (25 Feb to 27 Feb) |
| What the bulletin said beforehand | Dates of correction "will be displayed on the NTA website" | Same wording |
| Planned exam dates (bulletin) | 21 to 30 January 2026 | 2 to 9 April 2026 |
Registration dates (31 October to 27 November 2025 for Session 1) are from the 2026 Information Bulletin; the Session 2 registration and all correction dates are from news reports of NTA notices. The pattern is consistent: the window follows the registration close almost immediately, well before the city intimation slip and admit card (the bulletin gave the first week of January 2026 tentatively for Session 1). If 2027 follows the reported tentative schedule (Session 1 exams in the last week of January 2027, to be verified on jeemain.nta.nic.in), registration would run roughly from late October to late November 2026 and the correction window would fall in early December. That is an inference from past cycles, not an announcement. Track the official dates on our registration last date page.
What Was Editable in the 2026 Window
The editable list differed between sessions and between candidate types. The two columns below are assembled from Careers360 and similar coverage of NTA's two correction notices; Brilliantpala and Class24 give broadly matching Session 1 lists, while one site (Sarvgyan) gave a conflicting list that we did not use. "Existing" means a candidate who registered in Session 1 and applied again for Session 2; "new" means Session 2 only.
| Field | Session 1 window (Dec 2025) | Session 2 window (Feb 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Paper (B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Planning) | Adding a paper reported as editable | Editable (existing and new) |
| Medium of question paper | Editable | Editable (existing); new candidates by address details |
| Category and sub-category / PwD status | Category editable; PwD status only if not verified via UDID portal | Category editable; new candidates' PwD only if not UDID-verified |
| Gender | Editable | Editable |
| Date of birth | Editable | Editable for new candidates; not listed for existing |
| State code of eligibility | Editable | Editable |
| Exam city preferences | Editable from options offered | Editable from options offered (existing) |
| Class 10 and Class 12 details | Editable | Editable |
| Signature | Editable | Editable for new candidates |
| Name, father's name or mother's name | One of the names, as reported | One of the three, for new candidates only |
| Identity details | Only for candidates not verified through Aadhaar, as reported | Only for candidates registered with identity other than Aadhaar |
| Mobile number and e-mail address | Locked | Locked |
| Permanent and present address | Locked | Locked |
| Emergency contact details | Locked | Locked |
| Live or uploaded photograph | Locked | Locked |
Compiled from news reports of the 2026 correction notices (we could not open the notice PDFs). The bulletin itself confirms only that corrections are limited to certain fields. The official correction notice is the only authority.

What Stayed Locked and Why It Matters
Contact details, addresses and the photograph being locked is the part that catches families out. The mobile number and e-mail are where NTA sends OTPs and updates; the address and photograph tie into identity checks. In the 2026 form, identity was verified through Aadhaar e-KYC (an OTP to the Aadhaar-linked mobile) or DigiLocker, with a scanned identity proof for candidates who used neither, and the correction notices reported identity details as open only to candidates who had not verified through Aadhaar. Our page on the APAAR ID and Aadhaar requirement explains that verification step in more detail.
Practical consequence: enter your own working mobile number and an e-mail account you will actually read, not a coaching centre or cyber cafe address. Upload a clear photograph at the first attempt using the rules on the photo and signature page, because the 2026 bulletin says correction of uploaded photograph, signature and certificates will not be given later, and the photograph was listed as locked in the correction notices.
Extra Fee and the One-Time Rule
What NTA's notices said, as reported, is that any additional fee arising from a change has to be paid by credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI. The notices as reported do not publish a separate correction charge. What the bulletin does give is the base fee table, which makes the likely triggers clear: for one paper in India the 2026 fees were Rs 1,000 (General male), Rs 900 (General-EWS/OBC-NCL male), Rs 800 (female General, EWS or OBC-NCL) and Rs 500 (SC/ST/PwD/PwBD and third gender), and a second paper or a centre outside India raises the amount. So a category change from a concessional slot to General, adding a paper, or moving to a centre abroad would plausibly require a top-up, though that is our reading of the table, not an NTA statement. Processing charges and GST are extra, and the bulletin says the confirmation page is generated only after successful payment, so an unpaid correction may not take effect. See the registration fee structure page for how the base fee is built.
On the one-time rule: NTA's 2026 FAQ 29 says "A one-time correction facility for selected fields will be provided", and the correction notice, as quoted by Careers360, stated that thereafter no correction in particulars whatsoever would be entertained under any circumstances. The same FAQ says NTA is not responsible for mistakes made by candidates, and FAQ 30 says a submitted form cannot be cancelled or withdrawn. In plain terms, submit one complete round of corrections, not several small ones, and do not plan on revisiting the form later.
Prepare Before the Window Opens
- Download a PDF or screenshot of your confirmation page the moment you submit, and compare it line by line with your Class 10 certificate and Aadhaar.
- Note any mismatch in name spelling, date of birth, category or state code within a day of registering, not on the last day of the window.
- Keep your application number and password handy; losing them is the commonest reason people miss the window.
- Keep a payment method ready in case an edit raises the fee.
- Decide the full list of changes first. The facility is one-time, so batch every edit into one submission.
- After submitting, save the confirmation page of the corrected form as well.
Common Edits and How to Approach Them
Category. If you registered under the wrong category, fix it in the window, but check the certificate rules first. OBC-NCL and EWS claims rely on a valid certificate, covered on our category certificate page. A switch to General may increase the fee.
Paper choice. Adding B.Arch or B.Planning is the usual case. It can add to the fee and changes the exam schedule you will see on the admit card.
State code of eligibility. This affects your home-state quota status later in counselling, so confirm it against your Class 12 board school location before the window, using the official rule when the bulletin is out.
Marks and board details. Correct spelling and roll number errors, since these are cross-checked later. For everything that goes wrong in registration, our list of registration mistakes to avoid is a good second read.
Which Mistake Can Still Be Fixed?
Use this table to triage an error found after you submit. It combines what the 2026 bulletin says with what the reported correction notices allowed. The "route" column is the route that applied in 2026; check the 2027 notice for changes.
| Error | Fixable? | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong category or fee slab | Yes, in the window | Edit in the correction window, pay any difference; certificate details per the category page |
| Wrong state code of eligibility | Yes, in the window | Edit in the window; read the state code page first |
| Typo in Class 10 or 12 details | Yes, in the window | Edit in the window; match the marksheet |
| Wrong exam city | Yes, but only from options offered | Edit in the window; see the exam city page |
| Wrong mobile number or e-mail | No, locked | Plan ahead; the helpline is the only recourse and nothing is guaranteed |
| Wrong address or emergency contact | No, locked | Same as above |
| Poor photograph | No, per bulletin and notices | Prevention only; see the photo and signature page |
| Admit card shows a different photo or detail than you intended | Record fix only | Call the NTA helpline 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and still appear with the downloaded admit card, per the bulletin |
| Duplicate form filed | Not allowed | The bulletin says multiple forms lead to cancellation of the result |
A Step-by-Step Plan for the Window Days
- Before the window, open your submitted confirmation page and compare every line with your Class 10 marksheet, category certificate and Aadhaar. Mark each difference.
- Split the differences into two lists: fields that were editable in 2026 and fields that were locked. Spend your attention on the first list.
- Check the official notice as soon as it appears. It lists the exact fields for that session and any fee instruction; our table above is only a guide.
- On day one, log in with your application number and password. If login fails, use the recovery steps on the login help page immediately, not on the last evening.
- Make all edits in one session of work, review the summary screen, and pay any additional fee if prompted. Note that the 2026 window closed at 11:50 pm on its last day.
- Download the new confirmation page, and keep it with the old one. The bulletin says confirmation pages are generated only after successful payment, so a missing page means a payment problem; see fee payment failed and refund.
- Do not send documents or requests by post, fax, WhatsApp or e-mail. The bulletin says NTA will not entertain corrections sent that way, and FAQ 26 says no documents or confirmation page need to be sent to NTA.
If there is a clash between a locked field and a real-world change, such as a new phone number, use the helpline channels on our helpline and grievance page. The 2026 FAQs list 011-40759000 and jeemain@nta.ac.in; confirm them in the 2027 bulletin.
Corrections Across the Two Sessions
The 2026 bulletin treated the two sessions as separate applications that share one application number: you register once, apply for Session 2 later with the same number and pay again, and the FAQs say candidates apply separately for each session. In practice the reported notices ran a separate correction window for each session, with a different editable list for existing and new candidates. The FAQs also say that if you appear in both sessions, the better NTA score is used for the merit list, so an error that affects your score eligibility, such as a wrong paper, matters in both. Compare the dates on our Session 1 versus Session 2 registration page and see JEE Main 2027 exam dates, where the tentative calendar places Session 1 in late January 2027.
If you are adding Paper 2A or 2B, read the Paper 2 registration page first, because the exam duration differs (3 hours 30 minutes for B.Arch and B.Planning together, per the 2026 bulletin). For city changes, see the exam city choice guide, and for identity details the Information Bulletin page.
