JEE Main 2027 Session 2 Dress Code — Expected Guidelines

Based on NTA's stable dress code rules from recent years, pending official 2027 confirmation.

Important: JEE Main 2027 has not happened yet and no official 2027 dress code notice has been released. This page describes rules NTA has applied consistently in recent years as a preparation guide — always follow the official 2027 admit card instructions once released.

Why Dress Code Rules Exist

NTA enforces a dress code primarily to speed up and secure the frisking process at exam centers, reducing opportunities to smuggle in prohibited items such as electronic devices or written notes. These rules have been applied consistently across recent JEE Main sessions and are expected to continue in a similar form for Session 2 of JEE Main 2027.

What Has Typically Been Required

  • Light, simple clothing without big buttons, broaches, embroidery or metallic ornamentation.
  • Half-sleeve clothing is generally recommended over full-sleeve for easier frisking.
  • Sandals or slippers rather than closed shoes with thick soles.
  • No jewelry, watches, belts with large buckles, or other metallic accessories.
  • Candidates in religious attire have typically been advised to arrive earlier for additional security checks.

How to Prepare While Waiting for Official Confirmation

Plan your exam-day outfit around these established norms so you are not caught off guard, but re-check the specific instructions printed on your admit card once JEE Main 2027 registration opens — NTA occasionally adds minor clarifications each cycle. Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the JEE Main 2027 Session 2 dress code

1
Has NTA released the official dress code for JEE Main 2027 Session 2?
No. As of October 2026, the official information bulletin for JEE Main 2027 has not been released, so there is no confirmed 2027 dress code notice. This page describes the dress code guidelines NTA has applied consistently in recent years, which is a reasonable basis for preparation but not an official 2027 document.
2
What dress code has NTA typically required in recent years?
In recent cycles, NTA has generally required light-colored, simple clothing without big buttons, embroidery, brooches, flowers, badges or metallic items. Half-sleeve shirts/tops have usually been recommended, and footwear is typically restricted to sandals or slippers rather than closed shoes, to facilitate frisking at security checkpoints.
3
Are there separate rules for religious attire?
In past years, candidates wearing religious attire have generally been advised to report earlier than the standard reporting time so that additional security checks can be completed without delay. Specific 2027 guidance on this should be confirmed from the official admit card and advisory once released.
4
Can I wear jewelry or watches to the JEE Main 2027 exam?
Based on consistent past-year rules, jewelry, watches, and other metallic accessories are typically not allowed inside the exam center, since they can trigger issues during metal-detector frisking. Expect similar restrictions for 2027, to be confirmed in the official admit card instructions.
5
Where will the final, official 2027 dress code be published?
The authoritative dress code and exam-day guidelines will be published along with the JEE Main 2027 admit card and information bulletin on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Always follow that document over any third-party guide, including this one.
6
Why does NTA recommend half-sleeve clothing specifically?
Half-sleeve clothing has been recommended in past years primarily to speed up physical frisking at security checkpoints, since full-sleeve garments can conceal small written notes, electronic devices, or other prohibited items more easily along the forearm. This has been a consistent, practical security rationale across cycles rather than a cosmetic preference.
7
Are hairpins, hair bands, or small clips allowed?
In past years, simple, non-metallic hair accessories like plain fabric hair bands have generally been permitted, while hairpins and clips with metallic components have often drawn additional scrutiny during frisking, since metal detectors can flag them. To avoid delays, many candidates have opted for simple hairstyles that don't require metal accessories on exam day — though always defer to that year's specific admit card instructions.
8
What about formal shoes or sports shoes — are these generally restricted?
Past-year guidelines have generally steered candidates toward open footwear like sandals or slippers rather than closed shoes, particularly those with thick soles, since closed shoes can be used to conceal small items and take longer to check during frisking. If your exam center's specific instructions don't explicitly restrict closed shoes, it is still safer to default to simple open footwear based on the established pattern.
9
Does the dress code differ between Session 1 and Session 2 of JEE Main?
No — the dress code guidelines have historically applied uniformly across both sessions of JEE Main in a given year, since the same security and frisking rationale applies regardless of which session a candidate is appearing in. There is no indication that NTA has treated Session 1 and Session 2 dress code requirements differently in past cycles.
