JEE Main 2027 Eligibility Criteria
Age limit, qualifying Class 12 passing years, number of attempts, subject requirements, and minimum marks — everything you need to check if you qualify.
NTA's official JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin (expected around October/November 2026) will contain the final confirmed eligibility criteria. The details below reflect the stable pattern followed in 2025 and 2026, which is highly likely to carry over unchanged.

Age Limit — There Isn't One
NTA removed the age limit for JEE Main entirely some years ago, and this has stayed unchanged since. There's no upper or lower age bar for appearing in either session. This benefits candidates who took a longer path to Class 12 completion, or droppers who are older than the "typical" 17-18 age most JEE aspirants fall into.
One caveat: while NTA itself has no age restriction, individual institutes (particularly some state-quota seats or specific programs) may occasionally apply their own age-related admission rules. This is uncommon for the core JoSAA/CSAB process but worth a quick check if your situation is non-standard.

Qualifying Exam & Passing Year Rules
For JEE Main 2027, eligible candidates are those who passed Class 12 (or equivalent) in 2025 or 2026, or who are currently appearing for their Class 12 board exams in 2027. If you completed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier, or if you'll only appear for Class 12 after 2027, you are not eligible for JEE Main 2027 under the standard rule.
Recognized qualifying exams span more than just CBSE/state boards: the NDA Joint Services Wing two-year course final exam, NIOS Senior Secondary exams (minimum 5 subjects), and any foreign board/university exam recognized as 10+2-equivalent by AIU also count. If your qualifying exam falls outside the common CBSE/state-board path, verify its recognition status directly against the official NTA list once the 2027 bulletin is out.
Key Points to Remember
- Both sessions in one year = one attempt. Don't hesitate to appear in both Session 1 and Session 2 — it doesn't cost you an extra attempt from your 3-attempt limit.
- No minimum marks to appear — the 75%/65% Class 12 rule only matters at the JoSAA admission stage, not for sitting the exam.
- Check your qualifying exam's recognition status early if you didn't come through a standard CBSE/state board path.
- Wait for official confirmation before finalizing plans — these criteria are expected to carry over from 2026 but are not yet officially confirmed for 2027.
