JoSAA Counselling 2027 — Complete Overview
Registration · Choice Filling · Rounds · Freeze/Float/Slide · Fees · Documents · CSAB
Disclaimer: JoSAA 2027 has not begun and no official brochure, dates, seat matrix, or round count exist as of October 2026. This page is a process overview based on the stable JoSAA mechanism used across recent cycles (2024–2026) — exact 2027 dates and figures will only be confirmed once JoSAA releases its official schedule at josaa.nic.in.
What Is JoSAA Counselling?
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) is the single, centralized body responsible for seat allocation to all 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and participating GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes) in India. It conducts a unified, multi-round online process based on JEE Main ranks (for NIT/IIIT/GFTI eligibility) and JEE Advanced ranks (for IIT eligibility).
This structure — one authority, one portal, multiple rounds, covering all these institute types together — has remained stable for years and is expected to continue for the 2027 cycle, even though specific dates, seat counts, and cutoffs for 2027 are not yet known.
The Full Process, Step by Step
- 1
Registration
Candidates register on the JoSAA portal using JEE Main/Advanced credentials, typically opening shortly after JEE Advanced results in recent years.
- 2
Choice Filling & Locking
Candidates list and rank their preferred institute-branch combinations, then lock the final order before the deadline.
- 3
Round-Wise Seat Allotment
JoSAA runs multiple rounds, matching ranks to choices and redistributing vacancies as they arise.
- 4
Freeze / Float / Slide Response
After each round, allotted candidates choose to accept and exit (Freeze), stay open to any upgrade (Float), or stay open to a same-institute branch upgrade (Slide).
- 5
Fee Payment & Document Verification
Candidates pay the seat acceptance fee and complete document verification each round to remain valid in the process.
- 6
Final Reporting
After the last round, candidates report to their allotted institute to complete admission formalities.
- 7
CSAB (If Needed)
Candidates without a JoSAA allotment, or those seeking one more chance at NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats, can participate in CSAB's special rounds afterward.

What's Stable vs What's Still Unknown
Stable (confident): The overall structure — registration, choice filling, round-wise allotment, freeze/float/slide, fee payment, document verification, reporting, and CSAB as a follow-up for residual seats.
Not yet known: Exact 2027 dates, number of rounds, seat matrix, fee amounts, and cutoff ranks. These will only be confirmed once JoSAA releases its official 2027 brochure.
