WBJEE 2026 Spot Round
Walk-in, college-level counselling for seats that remain vacant after WBJEEB's centralized rounds end — who conducts it, who's eligible, and how to approach it.
There is no single centralized WBJEEB spot-round portal — this is a college-level process that begins after the Mop-Up round (Round 3), whose result was declared July 28, 2026, concluding centralized WBJEE 2026 counselling. Individual colleges are expected to open spot-round admission over the following days and weeks — always confirm exact dates directly with the college.
What Is the WBJEE Spot Round?
WBJEEB's centralized, rank-based counselling for WBJEE concludes in three stages — Round 1, Round 2, and the Mop-Up round (Round 3), whose allotment result was declared July 28, 2026. Once the Mop-Up round's reporting deadline passes, any seats still lying vacant are no longer processed through the common wbjeeb.nic.in portal. Instead, individual colleges — overwhelmingly private engineering institutes affiliated to MAKAUT (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology) — take over and conduct what is commonly called a spot round or walk-in admission.
Because this stage is decentralized, there is no single common notification, timeline, or portal to track. Each college independently decides when to open its spot round, publishes its own vacant-seat list (often branch-wise), and sets its own walk-in dates. This makes the spot round fundamentally different in character from the three preceding centralized rounds, where a common algorithm and timeline applied uniformly across all participating institutes.
Government and government-aided colleges — Jadavpur University, IIEST Shibpur, and the handful of state-run engineering colleges — almost never reach the spot-round stage, since their seats are fully subscribed well before the Mop-Up round ends. Spot rounds are therefore concentrated almost entirely among private self-financing colleges, particularly for branches that historically see lower demand.
Candidates approaching the spot round should treat it differently from earlier rounds: rather than waiting for a portal notification, the practical approach is to shortlist a set of MAKAUT-affiliated colleges where Mop-Up round vacancies were visibly high, then contact their admission offices directly — by phone, email, or an in-person visit — to ask about spot-round timing and seat availability.
Spot Round vs Centralized Rounds
| Aspect | Centralized Rounds (1, 2, Mop-Up) | Spot Round |
|---|---|---|
| Conducted by | WBJEEB (centralized) | Individual colleges (decentralized) |
| Allotment method | Rank-based algorithm on locked choices | Often first-come, first-served |
| Portal | wbjeeb.nic.in | College's own website / admission office |
| Notification | Single common schedule | Varies college to college |
| Seat pool | All participating colleges | Only that specific college's vacancies |
How to Approach the Spot Round
Track Mop-Up round vacancies
Note which colleges and branches showed high vacancy during Round 3 — these are the most likely candidates for a spot round.
Contact colleges directly
Call or email the admission office of shortlisted colleges to ask about spot-round dates, eligibility, and required documents.
Keep all documents ready
Carry admit card, rank card, marksheets, category certificate, migration certificate, photographs, and fee payment method.
Arrive early on walk-in day
Many colleges admit on a first-come, first-served basis — arriving early significantly improves your chances for a specific branch.
Confirm the seat immediately
If offered a seat, complete the admission and fee formalities on the spot, since delaying risks losing it to another candidate.
