JEE Main College Predictor 2026

Predict NIT, IIIT & GFTI Colleges by JEE Main Rank · Home State & Category-Aware

What This Predictor Covers

All 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and select GFTIs that participate in JoSAA counselling — the same joint seat allotment process used for JEE Main rank holders across two rounds of choice-filling and five rounds of allotment.

The JEE Main College Predictor 2026 helps you shortlist realistic NIT, IIIT and GFTI options based on your JEE Main 2026 All India Rank. Rather than manually comparing your rank against dozens of institute-wise, branch-wise, and category-wise cutoff PDFs, the predictor cross-references your rank against the last available JoSAA closing-rank data to instantly flag institutes where you have a High, Moderate, or Low chance of allotment.

Because JoSAA seat allotment depends heavily on quota (Home State vs Other State), category (General/EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD), and gender (regular vs Female Supernumerary), the same rank can have very different outcomes depending on these inputs. A rank of 15,000 might comfortably get NIT Trichy in your home state under General-Home-State quota, but the same rank might only reach a lower-tier NIT under Other-State quota.

Frequently Asked Questions – JEE Main College Predictor 2026

Common questions about predicting NIT, IIIT and GFTI colleges from your JEE Main rank

1
How does the JEE Main College Predictor 2026 work?
The predictor compares your JEE Main 2026 All India Rank (or category rank), category (General/EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST), gender, and home state against previous years' JoSAA closing ranks for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. It then lists institutes and branches where your rank falls within or close to the historical closing-rank range, sorted by likelihood of allotment (High/Moderate/Low chance).
2
What inputs do I need for an accurate college prediction?
You need: (1) your JEE Main 2026 All India Rank or category rank, (2) your reservation category, (3) your home state (NITs reserve 50% seats for home-state candidates under the Home State quota), (4) your gender (some seats are Female-only under the Supernumerary quota), and (5) your preferred branch, if you want branch-specific predictions rather than a full list.
3
What is the difference between Home State and Other State quota at NITs?
Each NIT reserves 50% of its seats for candidates who are domiciled in the state where that NIT is located (Home State quota) and 50% for candidates from all other states (Other State quota). Home State cutoffs are typically much lower (easier) than Other State cutoffs at the same NIT because competition is restricted to candidates from that one state. For example, NIT Warangal's Home State (Telangana) CSE cutoff is significantly lower than its Other State CSE cutoff.
4
Do IIITs and GFTIs use the same rank list as NITs?
Yes. JoSAA conducts joint counselling for all 31 NITs, 26 IIITs (including PPP-model IIITs) and select GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes) like IIEST Shibpur using the same JEE Main All India Rank and category rank. However, some newer IIITs and GFTIs use only the All India (open) quota with no home-state reservation, so their cutoffs are not split like NIT cutoffs.
5
How accurate is a college predictor before JoSAA counselling starts?
A college predictor based on the previous year's official closing ranks is typically accurate within one or two rounds of movement for most branches — closing ranks usually shift only modestly year over year unless total seats, category-wise reservation percentages, or the number of participating institutes change. Popular branches like CSE at top NITs see the least year-over-year rank movement; less popular branches like Textile or Metallurgical Engineering can see wider swings.
6
Should I trust only the college predictor or also check historical cutoff trends?
Use both. The predictor gives a quick shortlist, but it's worth cross-checking your target institutes against the last 2-3 years of JoSAA closing rank trends on the cutoffs page, since a single predictor run does not show whether cutoffs have been rising or falling for a specific branch — a trend view helps you judge how safe a 'moderate chance' prediction really is.
