Understanding UPTAC 2026 Round 2 Allotment

Round 2 is the second seat allotment round of UPTAC (Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling) 2026, conducted by AKTU for B.Tech, B.Pharm, MBA, and MCA admissions across 600+ government, government-aided, and private institutes affiliated to the university. Round 2 evaluates two groups of candidates: those who accepted a Round 1 seat and chose Float (hoping for an upgrade), and those who registered but received no allotment at all in Round 1. If you haven't reviewed the Round 1 allotment guide yet, it's worth understanding that process first since Round 2 outcomes build directly on it.

Round 2 typically brings meaningful movement because a portion of Round 1 allottees Freeze their seats at top government institutes — HBTU Kanpur, MMMUT Gorakhpur, KNIT Sultanpur, IET Lucknow — and exit the counselling pool entirely, freeing up capacity for the next tier of candidates in Round 2. Since Float guarantees you can never be allotted something worse than your Round 1 seat, there is essentially no reason not to select it in Round 2 as well, unless you already hold your first-preference institute and branch.

A frequently overlooked detail in Round 2 is the option-form editing window: UPTAC allows candidates to add, remove, or reorder institute-branch choices between rounds, subject to AKTU's specific rules for that cycle. Candidates who leave a narrow, unedited choice list from Round 1 unchanged often miss out on colleges that only became realistically reachable due to Round 1 vacancy shifts. Reviewing and refreshing your choice list before Round 2 processing — rather than assuming your original priorities still make sense — is one of the highest-leverage actions available at this stage.

Category-wise, UPTAC continues to apply UP government reservation norms afresh in Round 2: 27% OBC, 21% SC, 2% ST, and 10% EWS, layered with horizontal reservations for PwD and women candidates, in addition to the UP domicile reservation that applies specifically at state-funded institutes. A candidate ineligible for a particular seat under a reserved category in Round 1 may find that seat's status has shifted in Round 2 as the vacancy calculation resets — so it's worth re-checking your eligibility across categories rather than relying on your Round 1 outcome alone.

Institute-tier behavior also shifts between rounds. Government and government-aided institutes fill their most competitive CSE/IT branches almost entirely by the end of Round 1, so Round 2 movement concentrates more heavily among private AKTU-affiliated colleges, which have far larger seat capacity and typically retain vacancies well into Round 3. Use the UPTAC College Predictor to compare your Round 2 result against expected Round 3/4 cutoff trends before deciding whether to Freeze or continue Floating.

Steps to Follow After Round 2 Result

1

Check Your Round 2 Allotment

Log in to uptac.samarth.edu.in with your registration credentials. Download your Round 2 allotment letter and verify institute, branch, and category carefully.

2

Compare with Your Round 1 Seat

If upgraded, your Round 1 seat is automatically released once you accept the new allotment. If unchanged, your Round 1 seat and payment carry forward.

3

Pay Any Fee Difference

If upgraded to a higher-fee institute, pay the difference online within the deadline (typically 2–3 days). Non-payment cancels the Round 2 allotment.

4

Choose Freeze or Float for Round 3

Freeze locks your seat and exits further rounds. Float keeps you eligible for Round 3 upgrades — you cannot get a worse seat by floating.

5

Review and Edit Your Choice List

Before Round 3 processing, revisit your institute-branch preferences — add or reorder choices based on updated vacancy trends rather than leaving a stale Round 1 list.

What to Do Based on Your Round 2 Situation

Got an upgrade

Your Float worked. Accept the new seat, pay any fee difference, and decide Freeze or Float for Round 3 based on how satisfied you are.

No change from Round 1

Nothing opened up for your rank/category yet. Your Round 1 seat remains valid with no further action needed — keep Floating if you want to try again in Round 3.

Got a seat for the first time

Accept the seat and complete fee payment within the deadline. Choose Float to try for a better option in Round 3–4, or Freeze if you're satisfied.

Still no seat after Round 2

Remain in the pool automatically — Rounds 3 and 4, plus two Special Rounds, followed to fill remaining seats through September 7, 2026. Consider whether your choice list was broad enough across government-aided and private colleges.

Round 2 Strategy Tips

  • Float unless it's your dream seat — there are still Rounds 3 and 4 (auto-freeze) to improve further.
  • Never miss the fee deadline — it's typically only 2–3 days after the Round 2 result is declared.
  • Round 4 is auto-freeze — floating candidates are automatically locked to their best seat, so there's no downside to floating through Round 2 and 3.
  • Re-check your domicile/category tag on the Round 2 allotment letter — SAMARTH migration has caused some data mismatches this cycle.

UPTAC 2026 Round 2 Allotment – FAQs

Common questions about UPTAC 2026 Round 2 seat allotment and next steps

1
When is UPTAC 2026 Round 2 allotment result declared?
AKTU's (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University) Round 1 choice filling closed on July 16, 2026, with Round 1 allotment declared July 18, 2026. Round 2 choice filling opened shortly after, with the deadline extended to July 22, 2026 (6 PM), and the Round 2 allotment result was declared July 24, 2026.
2
How do I check my UPTAC 2026 Round 2 allotment result?
Log in to uptac.samarth.edu.in with your registration credentials — JEE Main 2026 application number and your UPTAC password. Navigate to 'Seat Allotment' to view your Round 2 result, showing the allotted institute, branch code, and category. Download the allotment letter as a PDF for fee payment and physical reporting purposes.
3
What is the difference between Freeze and Float in UPTAC Round 2?
Freeze confirms your Round 2 allotment permanently and exits you from further rounds — choose this only if you're fully satisfied. Float keeps your current seat as a guaranteed backup while AKTU tries to allot you a higher-preference option in Round 3. Floating carries no downside: since UPTAC's algorithm can only move you to an equal-or-better seat based on your original choice order, you can never end up worse off than your Round 2 allotment by choosing Float.
4
Do I need to pay the seat acceptance fee again if I get an upgrade in Round 2?
If your Round 2 allotment is an upgrade over Round 1, you generally don't pay the full seat acceptance fee again — you typically only need to pay any fee difference if your new institute has a higher fee structure, since the SAMARTH portal tracks your existing Round 1 payment against the new allotment. Always confirm the exact amount due on your downloaded Round 2 allotment letter rather than assuming.
5
What if I didn't get a seat in Round 1 — will I automatically be considered in Round 2?
Yes. If you registered for UPTAC 2026 and remained unallotted after Round 1, you are automatically evaluated again in Round 2 against the updated seat vacancy list — no fresh registration or re-application is needed. Continue to monitor uptac.samarth.edu.in for the Round 2 result and consider reviewing whether your original choice list covered a wide enough mix of government-aided and private AKTU-affiliated colleges.
6
How does UP domicile reservation affect Round 2 seat vacancy?
UPTAC's UP domicile quota at state-funded institutes, along with horizontal reservations for EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD categories, continues to apply afresh in Round 2 exactly as in Round 1. A seat unavailable to an outstation (All India quota) candidate in Round 1 can sometimes open up in Round 2 if a UP-domicile candidate from that seat withdraws or is allotted elsewhere, so it's worth re-checking eligibility across categories rather than assuming your Round 1 outcome is fixed.
7
How many more rounds are left after UPTAC Round 2?
UPTAC 2026 counselling had 4 main rounds in total, so after Round 2, Rounds 3 and 4 followed, with Round 4 being an auto-freeze round where floating candidates were automatically locked into their best-ever allotted seat. Two Special Rounds followed for seats still vacant afterward, with Special Round 2 physical reporting completed September 3–7, 2026 — the last round for candidates with confirmed seats from earlier rounds.
