IIT Seat Acceptance Process in JoSAA 2026

After each JoSAA 2026 round, candidates who receive an IIT allotment must log in to josaa.nic.in and complete seat acceptance within 24-36 hours. The process involves paying the seat acceptance fee online and uploading documents.

The seat acceptance fee for General/OBC-NCL candidates is ₹35,000 and for SC/ST/PwD candidates is ₹15,000. This amount is part-payment of your institute fee and is adjusted at the time of physical reporting. If you withdraw after accepting, the fee is forfeited.

During acceptance, choose your seat option: Freeze (keep current seat, no further upgrades), Float (keep current seat, open to better choices in higher rounds), or Slide (upgrade only within the same institute). In the final round (Round 5), only Freeze is effective. Documents must be uploaded in PDF/JPG format during the same session.

Common questions about IIT seat acceptance after JoSAA 2026 allotment

Log in to josaa.nic.in with your JEE Advanced credentials. Go to 'Seat Acceptance', pay the seat acceptance fee (₹35,000 for GEN/OBC, ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD), and choose Freeze, Float, or Slide. Upload required documents and submit before the deadline shown in your allotment letter.
2
What is the seat acceptance fee for IIT seats in JoSAA 2026?
The seat acceptance fee is ₹35,000 for General and OBC-NCL candidates, and ₹15,000 for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. This fee is adjusted against the institute fee at the time of physical reporting. It is non-refundable if you withdraw after accepting.
3
What documents do I need to accept my IIT seat in JoSAA 2026?
You need: Class 10 certificate (date of birth proof), Class 12 marksheet, JEE Advanced 2026 admit card and scorecard, category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS if applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable), passport-size photographs, and a valid photo ID. Upload scanned copies during online acceptance.
4
What happens if I miss the JoSAA 2026 seat acceptance deadline?
If you miss the seat acceptance deadline after a JoSAA allotment, your seat is automatically cancelled and you are not considered in subsequent rounds. There is no grace period. You cannot re-enter JoSAA counselling for that academic year once this window closes.
5
Can I change my seat acceptance option (Freeze/Float/Slide) after submitting?
Yes, you can change Freeze/Float/Slide during the modification window of the same round. Once a round's modification window closes, changes take effect and you start fresh in the next round with a new acceptance window. Always re-check your option before the deadline each round.
