WBJEE 2026 Choice Filling Guide

Step-by-step guide to fill choices correctly on wbjeeb.nic.in — strategy, ideal order, how many to fill, and mistakes that cost seats.

Step-by-Step: How to Fill WBJEE 2026 Choices

1

Login to wbjeeb.nic.in

Use your WBJEE 2026 roll number and date of birth to log in to the counselling portal after registration and fee payment.

2

Navigate to Choice Filling

Go to the 'Choice Filling' section in your dashboard. You'll see a list of all available institute-course combinations.

3

Search & Add Choices

Search by college name, branch, or category. Add each institute-course pair you want. Use filters to narrow down options.

4

Arrange in Preference Order

Drag and reorder choices. Put your most desired college-branch at #1, second preference at #2, and so on. Your #1 is attempted first.

5

Add Safety Options at the End

Include 10–15 safe options (colleges clearly within your rank range) at the bottom of your list to ensure you get some allotment.

6

Save Regularly

Click 'Save' every time you make changes. Don't rely on auto-save. Portal sessions can time out unexpectedly.

7

Review & Lock Before Deadline

Review the full list carefully. Check category, branch codes, and college names. Lock at least 12–24 hours before deadline.

Choice Filling Strategy — Rank-wise

WBJEE Rank 1–2,000

Jadavpur University CSE/ECE/EE at top. Then IIEST Shibpur CSE/ECE. Then JU other branches. Add MAKAUT top colleges as safety. You have strong options — be ambitious in top 30 choices.

WBJEE Rank 2,000–7,000

IIEST Shibpur non-CSE branches. Heritage, RCC, Techno India good branches (CSE/ECE). MAKAUT govt-aided colleges. JU non-core branches as reach. Fill 60–80 choices covering all realistic options.

WBJEE Rank 7,000–20,000

MAKAUT private colleges with good CSE/ECE branches. Try Techno India, Narula, Siliguri Institute. Include variety of branches. Fill 80–100 choices. Focus on branch quality over college name.

WBJEE Rank 20,000+

Fill all available choices. Include all MAKAUT affiliated colleges. Consider branches like Civil, Mechanical if you want a government seat. Also check JEE Main-based counselling seats for additional options.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Filling too few choices (under 20)

Fill 60–100 choices. More choices = better chance of a good allotment.

Not including safe options at bottom

Always add 10–15 colleges clearly within your rank as safety net.

Locking choices at the last minute

Lock at least 12 hours early. Portal may be slow or crash near deadline.

Not checking branch codes carefully

CS and IT look similar. Verify branch name and code before adding.

Putting desired choice at #10 instead of #1

Always put dream choice first. The system gives highest-priority eligible option.

Forgetting to lock (only saved, not locked)

Saved choices are NOT considered. You must click Lock before deadline.

FAQs – WBJEE 2026 Choice Filling

Common questions about WBJEE 2026 choice filling process

1
How many choices should I fill in WBJEE 2026 counselling?
Fill as many choices as possible — ideally 60–100 institute-course combinations. More choices means higher probability of getting an allotment. Never limit yourself to just 5–10 choices. Include safe options (colleges well within your rank), moderate options, and ambitious reach choices.
2
Should I fill Jadavpur University first in WBJEE choice filling?
Yes, if Jadavpur University is your dream college, always put JU courses at the top. The allotment system gives you the highest-ranked choice your rank can satisfy. If JU CSE is your top choice and your rank qualifies, you get it. Put your absolute best-case choices first.
3
Can I change my choices after locking in WBJEE counselling?
No. Once choices are locked before the deadline, they cannot be modified. Filling and modifying is allowed during the open window. Always lock only after you are completely satisfied with your order.
4
What is the difference between 'Save' and 'Lock' in WBJEE choice filling?
'Save' stores your choices temporarily and allows further editing. 'Lock' finalizes your choices and makes them permanent — no changes after locking. Always save frequently to avoid losing your filled data, and lock only when fully satisfied.
5
Should I include private MAKAUT colleges in WBJEE choice filling?
Yes, include private MAKAUT-affiliated colleges as safety options at the end of your list. If you don't get a government or autonomous college, private MAKAUT colleges provide a backup. Better to have a seat than no seat.
