Frequently Asked Questions – KCET 2026 Seat Matrix

Common questions about seats, categories and reservations in KCET 2026

1
How many total engineering seats are available through KCET 2026?
Karnataka has approximately 85,000–90,000 engineering seats across government, government-aided, and private unaided colleges. Of these, about 60–65% seats (Government Quota seats) are filled through KCET counselling by KEA. The remaining SNQ (Special NRI Quota) and management quota seats are filled by colleges directly.
2
What is the category-wise seat reservation in KCET 2026?
Karnataka follows the Mandal Commission reservations along with state-specific categories. The General Merit (GM) seats are open to all. Reserved categories include SC (15%), ST (3%), OBC (32% split across Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B). Additionally, 7.5% of seats are reserved under the Rural Development (formerly Horanadu/Gadinadu Kannadiga) quota.
3
What is the 7.5% Rural quota in KCET 2026?
The Rural quota (HK/Special Category quota, often called the 7.5% rural reservation) reserves seats for students who have studied in rural areas or government schools in Karnataka. Eligible students must have completed their study in rural/government schools in Karnataka to claim this quota. This is over and above the regular category reservations.
4
Can students from other states participate in KCET 2026 counselling?
KCET government quota seats are primarily for Karnataka domicile students (Kannadigas who have studied in Karnataka for 7+ years, or Horanadu/Gadinadu Kannadigas). Students from other states are not eligible for government quota seats through KCET. However, they can apply for SNQ (Special NRI Quota) or management quota seats directly through colleges.
5
How many seats does RV College of Engineering offer through KCET?
RV College of Engineering, Bangalore is an autonomous deemed institution. It offers a limited number of government quota seats through KCET (approximately 50–60% of total intake). The total RVCE intake is around 1,200–1,500 across all branches. CSE at RVCE is among the most competitive seats in KCET with cutoff rank typically under 300–500 for General Merit.
