What to Do After KCET Round 1 Allotment – Step by Step

1

Check allotment result on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in

Login with your application number and DOB. Navigate to the allotment result section. Note your allotted college, branch, and category carefully. Download the allotment order PDF.

2

Verify the allotment details

Confirm the allotted college name, branch, category (GM/OBC/SC etc.), and fee. If there is a discrepancy, contact KEA helpline immediately — do not wait.

3

Accept the seat online

Within 2–3 days of allotment result, log in and click 'Accept Allotment'. Failure to accept within the deadline is treated as rejection of the seat.

4

Pay the seat acceptance fee

Pay the seat acceptance fee (typically ₹10,000–₹15,000) online via net banking, debit card, or UPI. Save the payment receipt. This fee is adjusted against college fees later.

5

Choose Freeze or Upgrade

Freeze: confirm this seat permanently and proceed to college reporting. Upgrade: temporarily hold this seat while participating in Round 2 for a better option. See the comparison table below.

6

Report to the allotted college (if Freeze)

Carry all original documents plus 3 sets of photocopies. Complete physical document verification and admission formalities at the college. Pay remaining fee at college.

7

Participate in Round 2 (if Upgrade)

You will automatically participate in Round 2. If Round 2 gives a better seat, you will be moved. If not, your Round 1 seat is retained. Report to college after Round 2 result.

Freeze vs Upgrade — Quick Comparison

AspectFreezeUpgrade
Seat after Round 1Confirmed permanentlyHeld temporarily
Participate in Round 2?NoYes, automatically
Risk of losing Round 1 seat?NoneNone — you keep R1 if R2 has nothing better
Suitable whenR1 seat is your top or near-top choiceR1 is acceptable but you want better
College reporting after R1Must report within deadlineMay still need temporary reporting — check KEA notice

Recommendation

When in doubt, choose Upgrade. It is completely risk-free — you cannot get a worse seat than your Round 1 allotment. Only choose Freeze if your Round 1 seat is exactly what you wanted.

What If You Did Not Get a Seat in Round 1?

Why might you not get a seat?

Possible reasons: (1) All choices in your list had cutoff ranks better than yours, (2) Your category seats in chosen colleges were filled, (3) You filled too few choices and all were highly competitive, (4) There was a mismatch in category eligibility documents.

What to do next?

You automatically participate in Round 2. No separate registration is needed. Your original locked choices are used. Consider if you want to expand your choice list — KEA may allow choice modification for non-allotted candidates before Round 2 in some years.

Should you add more choices?

If KEA allows choice modification (check official notice), add more choices — especially safety-net colleges in smaller cities, government colleges, and less-competitive branches. Fill at least 80+ choices for Round 2.

What if Round 2 also yields no allotment?

You can participate in the Mop-up round. The Mop-up round processes remaining vacant seats. It typically requires fresh registration on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in. If Mop-up also yields no seat, you may need to consider private management quota seats directly through colleges.

Common questions about KCET 2026 Round 1 seat allotment and next steps

1
How do I check KCET 2026 Round 1 allotment result?
Visit cetonline.karnataka.gov.in and login with your KCET application number and date of birth. Navigate to the 'Allotment Result' section. Your allotted college, branch, and category will be displayed. Download and save the allotment order for records. The result is also sent to your registered email and mobile number.
2
What should I do after KCET Round 1 allotment?
After checking your Round 1 allotment, you must: (1) Accept the seat online on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in within 2–3 days, (2) Pay the seat acceptance fee online, (3) Choose Freeze or Upgrade option, (4) If Freeze — report to the allotted college with original documents within the given deadline. If Upgrade — also report to the Round 1 college as confirmation of temporary acceptance.
3
What is the seat acceptance fee in KCET 2026?
The seat acceptance fee is a token amount (typically ₹10,000–₹15,000) paid online to confirm your allotted seat. This fee is adjustable against the college tuition fee later. The exact amount depends on the college type (government or private). Non-payment within the deadline results in automatic cancellation of the allotment.
4
What if I am not allotted any seat in KCET Round 1?
If you do not receive an allotment in Round 1, you automatically participate in Round 2 without any additional action. Ensure your choice list is already locked. In Round 2, KEA processes all remaining candidates and vacant seats again. If Round 2 also yields no allotment, you can participate in the Mop-up round by registering separately (if KEA requires it).
5
Can I change my choices after KCET Round 1 allotment?
Candidates who chose Upgrade after Round 1 may get a limited opportunity to modify choices before Round 2. However, this depends on KEA's policy for 2026. In most years, the original locked choices from before Round 1 carry forward for Round 2 as well. Check the official KEA notification on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in for 2026-specific choice modification rules.
