JoSAA 2026 Round 5 – Final Allotment (No Round 6)
July 16, 2026 · Last Round · Physical Reporting Begins · CSAB for Unallotted
This is the final JoSAA round. There is no Round 6 in JoSAA 2026. After Round 5 (July 16, 2026), JoSAA closes. All seat acceptances are final. Physical reporting at the institute is the next critical step.
A common point of confusion in JoSAA counselling, especially for candidates comparing notes with friends who went through the process in earlier years, is the exact number of rounds JoSAA runs in a given cycle — some past years have run six rounds, while JoSAA 2026 concluded with five, with Round 5 serving as the definitive final round for every institute category (IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs alike). If you've seen references online to "Round 6" while researching JoSAA, that may reflect an older cycle's schedule rather than the current one — always confirm the actual final round for your specific admission year directly from josaa.nic.in rather than assuming the round count from a previous year's process carries over unchanged.
What makes the final round fundamentally different from every round before it is that there's no more Float or Slide option afterward — whatever seat you hold at the close of the final round becomes your confirmed allotment, full stop. This is the moment the entire multi-week rank-matching and upgrade process has been building toward, and it shifts your focus entirely from "can I do better" to "how do I now secure and confirm what I have." Every action from this point forward — document upload, fee payment, and physical reporting — is about converting your final allotment into an actual, completed admission rather than continuing to negotiate for a better outcome.
After Round 5 Final Allotment: Complete Checklist

Login to josaa.nic.in → View final allotment. If upgraded, new seat is final. If not upgraded from Round 4, previous seat stands.
- 2
Accept Your Final Allotment
Round 5 is final — no Float/Freeze/Slide choice needed. Accept the allotment and proceed to reporting.
- 3
Download Final Allotment Letter
Download and save your final JoSAA 2026 allotment letter. This is required at the institute for physical reporting.
- 4

For NIT/IIIT/GFTI allottees, the partial admission fee payment window is July 22–24, 2026.
- 5
Prepare All Original Documents
Carry originals + 3 sets of self-attested photocopies of all required documents to the institute.
- 6
Report to Institute on Time
Attend document verification, medical check, and fee payment at the institute within the reporting window.
For candidates who remain unallotted even after the final round, it's genuinely useful to understand why this can happen despite the multi-round matching process being designed to place as many candidates as possible. Being unallotted after the final round typically means your choice list — even with all its entries — didn't include any institute-branch combination where your rank was competitive enough, which is most commonly a result of a choice list that was too short, too narrowly aspirational, or missing enough realistic safety options across GFTIs and less competitive branches. This is a hard but important lesson for future counselling cycles: a sufficiently long and well-spread choice list, including safety options you'd genuinely be willing to accept, is the best insurance against ending the process with no allotment at all.
If You Didn't Get a Seat After Round 5
Register for CSAB 2026
CSAB handles vacant NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats. Registration opens shortly after JoSAA Round 5. Check csab.nic.in.
Explore State Counselling
KCET (Karnataka), WBJEE (West Bengal), MHT-CET (Maharashtra), UPSEE (UP) and others may still have rounds open.
Private University Options
BITS Pilani, VIT, Manipal, SRM and others have their own counselling processes — explore if you haven't already.
Consider a Drop Year
If you're targeting a top IIT or specific branch, a well-planned drop year can be worthwhile. Many JEE Advanced toppers are repeaters.
Making the Most of the Final Round Outcome
For candidates who land in a seat they're genuinely happy with after the final round, the priority now shifts entirely to executing the reporting process smoothly and on time — treat this stage with the same care you gave choice filling, since a strong final allotment can still be jeopardized by a missed document, a mismatched name spelling, or a late reporting arrival. For candidates whose final allotment fell short of what they'd hoped for, it's worth taking a moment to genuinely evaluate the seat you do have before automatically defaulting to CSAB, a state counselling process, or a drop year — sometimes a "lower than hoped for" seat at a well-regarded institute is still a strong outcome worth accepting rather than gambling on an uncertain alternative.
If you do decide to pursue CSAB or another route after the final JoSAA round, remember that these are genuinely separate processes with their own registration, timelines, and rules — success in JoSAA doesn't automatically carry over, and you'll need to actively register and participate in whichever alternative path you choose, generally within a fairly short window after JoSAA concludes.
