Round 4 Strategy: What You Should Do

By Round 4, most major seat movements have occurred. The upgrade pool has shrunk significantly. Here's how to approach Round 4:

If you have a seat you're somewhat satisfied with: Assess realistic upgrade chances. If top choices require a much better rank than yours, it's time to Freeze and focus on reporting preparation.
If still on Float with realistic upgrades: Keep Float for Round 5 — there can still be meaningful movement.
If no seat yet: Rounds 5 and 6 remain. Stay in the process and simultaneously explore CSAB and state counselling options.
Start gathering documents: Physical reporting begins within days of Round 5 (final round). Collect originals + photocopies now.

Should I still Float in Round 4?

By Round 4, the pool of upgrade opportunities has reduced significantly. Evaluate whether the choices above your current seat in your list are realistically achievable with your rank. If you're only 1–2 choices away from your dream seat with a small rank gap, Float. Otherwise, consider Freezing and planning to join.

Can I change my choice order after Round 4?

No. Choice filling was locked at the beginning of JoSAA. You cannot change choice order after the initial window closed. Your original locked list is used for all 5 rounds. You can only select Freeze/Float/Slide each round.
