JoSAA 2026 Round 1 Seat Allotment
First allotment result expected ~June 10, 2026 — understand your options after Round 1 result.
About JoSAA 2026 Round 1
JoSAA 2026 conducts 6 rounds of seat allotment. Round 1 is the first allotment based on choices submitted during June 2–7, 2026. The JoSAA algorithm processes all candidates' choices simultaneously, assigning each candidate to the highest-preference seat they are eligible for based on their rank, category, and program criteria.
Round 1 typically fills top-ranked candidates' first preferences, especially for highly competitive programs like IIT Bombay CSE, IIT Delhi CSE, etc. For lower-ranked candidates, Round 1 may offer lower-preference options or no allotment. The process continues over 6 rounds until all seats are filled or all candidates are exhausted.

Steps After Round 1 Allotment
Check Your Allotment
Log in to josaa.nic.in with your JEE credentials. Download the provisional allotment letter. Check the allotted institute, program, category, and fee details.
Decide: Accept or Not?
If you got a seat, decide whether to accept it. If you are not interested in the allotted seat and don't want to continue in JoSAA, you can opt out. However, if you want any seat (even different), keep participating.
Choose Freeze, Float, or Slide
Freeze: Keep this seat and stop upgrading. Float: Accept seat but want upgrade in later rounds. Slide: Upgrade only within same institute. Most candidates should choose Float for Round 1.
Pay Seat Acceptance Fee
Pay ₹35,000 (Gen/OBC/EWS) or ₹15,000 (SC/ST/PwD) online via josaa.nic.in. This fee is mandatory to retain your allotment and participate in subsequent rounds.
Upload Documents Online
Complete the online reporting by uploading all required documents (marksheets, category certificate, photo, JEE scorecards) within the given window.
Round 1 Strategy Tips
- Always choose Float in Round 1 unless you are 100% satisfied with your allotment — you might get a better option in Round 2–5.
- Pay the fee even if you want to upgrade — not paying means you lose your current seat AND cannot participate in future rounds.
- Round 1 allotments are often not at your most-preferred choice — significant movement happens in Rounds 2–4 as candidates exit or upgrade.
- Check the Round 1 allotment carefully for category, home state (for NITs), and branch — ensure it matches what you expected.
