JoSAA 2026 Fee Payment

After a seat is allotted, candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee within the JoSAA deadline to keep the allotted seat active. Fee payment is linked with online reporting and document verification, so payment alone is not enough if documents or queries remain incomplete.

Save the payment receipt, transaction ID and reporting status after payment. If the payment page fails or the amount is deducted without confirmation, check the official JoSAA instructions before making a duplicate payment.

Each JoSAA round comes with a strict fee payment window, typically a few days after allotment results are declared. If a candidate does not pay the seat acceptance fee within this window, the allotted seat is treated as not accepted.

In that case, the allotment lapses, the seat is forfeited, and it is released back into the pool for the next round of allotment to other candidates. The candidate loses the opportunity to be considered for that particular seat and, unless they remain in the counselling process through other means, may drop out of further rounds. There is no provision to pay the fee late for a lapsed round — candidates must track round-wise deadlines closely on josaa.nic.in and ensure payment is completed well before the cut-off time to avoid last-minute technical issues.

If a candidate withdraws from JoSAA counselling before the final round, the seat acceptance fee paid is refunded after deducting a processing fee of ₹3,000. This deduction applies regardless of category, and the remaining amount is credited back to the original payment source.

Refunds are processed by JoSAA/the allotted institute after withdrawal is confirmed and the seat is released. Candidates should keep their bank account or payment details accurate and consistent while registering, since the refund is credited to the same source used for payment. If a refund does not reflect within the usual working-day window after withdrawal, candidates should check the transaction status on josaa.nic.in and, if needed, raise the issue through the official JoSAA helpdesk rather than contacting the institute directly.

Note that withdrawal is not permitted after the final round of allotment (Round 5, concluded on July 16, 2026 this year) — once a candidate is allotted a seat in the last round and completes reporting, the fee is fully adjusted against tuition and is not refundable.

Once the seat acceptance fee payment is successful, JoSAA generates a payment receipt with the transaction ID, amount paid, date and time of payment, and candidate details. This receipt should be downloaded and saved immediately — both as a digital copy and, where possible, a printed copy.

The receipt serves as proof of fee payment and is often required during document verification, at the reporting centre or during online reporting at the allotted institute. Institutes may ask for this receipt alongside other documents (JEE Main/Advanced scorecard, allotment letter, category certificates) to confirm that the seat acceptance formality has been completed.

In case of any payment dispute, such as a failed transaction where the amount was still debited, the transaction ID on the receipt (or bank statement, if the receipt was not generated) is essential for raising a complaint with the JoSAA helpdesk and getting the issue resolved without unnecessary delay.
