JoSAA 2026 Reporting Process

Online Document Upload · Physical Reporting at Institute · Deadlines & Checklist

Two Stages of JoSAA 2026 Reporting

Stage 1: Online Reporting

After each round's seat allotment, upload scanned documents on josaa.nic.in within 48–72 hours. This confirms your intention to accept the seat.

Stage 2: Physical Reporting

Visit the allotted institute in person with original documents after the final allotment round. Institute verifies documents and completes your admission.

Online Reporting: Step-by-Step

  1. 1

    Check Seat Allotment Result

Login to josaa.nic.in after each round's result is published. View allotted institute, programme, quota, and category.

  2. 2

    Pay Seat Acceptance Fee

Pay ₹35,000 (General/OBC/EWS) or ₹15,000 (SC/ST/PwD) online within the deadline (48–72 hrs). Download payment receipt.

  3. 3

Select Freeze / Float / Slide

Choose your preference: Freeze (keep seat), Float (upgrade to better choice), or Slide (upgrade within same institute).

  4. 4

    Upload Required Documents

Upload scanned copies of all required documents in the prescribed format and size. Verify upload success — incomplete upload = seat cancellation.

  5. 5

    Download Provisional Allotment Letter

After successful online reporting, download the provisional allotment letter. This is needed at the institute for physical verification.

Physical Reporting at Institute: What to Do

Physical reporting takes place at the allotted institute after the final round (Round 5) or whenever you choose to freeze. The institute's admission office handles the process.

Reach the Institute on Time

Reporting windows are fixed (usually 2–5 days). Check the institute website for exact timing and venue.

Document Verification

Officials verify all original documents against uploaded copies. Any discrepancy may result in admission cancellation.

Medical Examination

Undergo medical fitness check if required by the institute. IITs typically conduct this for all students.

Additional Fee Payment

Pay any remaining admission fee, hostel fee, or caution deposit as per the institute's requirement.

Collect Admission Confirmation

Get the admission confirmation slip/letter. This is your proof of enrolment.

What Happens If You Miss Reporting?

Missing Online Document Upload Deadline

Seat allotment is cancelled. You are removed from the system and will not receive allotment in future rounds. The seat is reallocated to other candidates.

Missing Physical Reporting at Institute

Your admission is cancelled even if you paid the seat acceptance fee. The seat goes back into the pool. In most cases, the acceptance fee is forfeited.

What to Do if You Genuinely Cannot Report

Contact the institute's admission office immediately and explain the situation. In exceptional circumstances (medical emergency, natural disaster), institutes may grant an extension with supporting documentation. This is not guaranteed.

1
Is online reporting mandatory for JoSAA 2026 before physical reporting?
Yes. Online reporting (document upload on josaa.nic.in) is mandatory after each round's seat allotment — you must upload scanned documents within the deadline. Physical reporting (visiting the institute) is done after the final round, or when the system mandates it. Both steps are compulsory to confirm admission.
2
What happens if I miss the JoSAA 2026 reporting deadline?
Missing the online document upload deadline means your seat allotment is cancelled. You will not be considered in further rounds. Missing the physical reporting deadline at the institute after the final round means your admission is cancelled and the seat is released. There is no provision for late reporting.
3
Can I report to the institute before JoSAA Round 5 final allotment?
No. Physical reporting at the institute is done only after the round in which you choose to freeze your seat or after Round 5 (whichever is earlier). You should not visit the institute before the reporting window opens for your round.
4
What should I carry to the institute for JoSAA 2026 physical reporting?
Carry original documents + 3 self-attested photocopies of each: Class 10 & 12 certificates/marksheets, JEE scorecards, JoSAA allotment letter, fee payment receipt, category certificates (if applicable), photo ID, and 6–8 recent passport photos. Also carry a demand draft if the institute requires additional fees.
5
Is medical examination required during JoSAA 2026 reporting?
A basic medical fitness check is conducted by some institutes (especially IITs) during reporting. This is to ensure you are fit to pursue engineering. Certain branches like Mining Engineering, Naval Architecture may have specific fitness criteria. PwD candidates may need a medical certificate from a Government hospital.
