JEE Advanced 2026 ST Cutoff – IIT ST Category Qualifying Marks

ST qualifying marks, ST rank list, and IIT JoSAA 2026 closing ranks for ST category

JEE Advanced ST Category Qualifying Cutoff 2026

ST (Scheduled Tribe) candidates have a qualifying cutoff set at 50% of the General category minimum — approximately 45 marks aggregate out of 360. The subject-wise minimum is approximately 5 marks per subject per paper (Paper 1 + Paper 2 combined).

7.5% of seats in every IIT branch are reserved for ST candidates. In JoSAA 2026, ST seats are filled from the ST rank list after General and EWS seats. ST candidates should fill all desired IIT choices in their choice list — JoSAA automatically determines the best possible allotment.

Unlike some other engineering entrance exams, JEE Advanced does not have separate cutoffs for different zones within ST category. The ST rank is a single national list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JEE Advanced 2026 ST category cutoff

1
What is the JEE Advanced 2026 ST qualifying cutoff?
The ST (Scheduled Tribe) category qualifying cutoff in JEE Advanced is set at 50% of the General category threshold — approximately 45 marks in aggregate out of 360, with subject-wise minimums of approximately 5 marks per subject per paper. The JEE Advanced 2026 result was declared on June 1, 2026 — check jeeadv.ac.in for the exact category-wise cutoff.
2
How many ST candidates qualify JEE Advanced each year?
Approximately 2,500-3,500 ST candidates qualify JEE Advanced annually. This is the total number of candidates placed in the ST rank list. Of these, roughly 1,200-1,800 get IIT allotment through JoSAA, as there are approximately 1,500-1,800 ST category seats across all IITs.
3
What IIT branch can an ST candidate with rank 500 (ST list) get?
With ST rank 500, you have excellent options: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras main branches (CSE, EE, Mechanical) are accessible. ST rank 500 is equivalent to a CRL rank of approximately 5000-8000, but the ST reserved seats in top branches close much earlier in ST category list.
4
Is the ST cutoff same as SC cutoff in JEE Advanced?
Yes, in most years the ST and SC qualifying cutoffs are identical or very close — both set at 50% of the General category threshold. However, the ST and SC rank lists are separate — you compete only within your own category for reserved seats. ST candidates get 7.5% of IIT seats (vs 15% for SC).
5
Can an ST candidate take up a General category seat in JoSAA?
Yes. If your CRL rank is good enough to get a General seat in a branch you prefer over what your ST category rank can get you, you can fill that choice in JoSAA. JoSAA considers your CRL rank for General and EWS seats, your category rank for reserved seats — you benefit from whichever is better.
