JEE Advanced 2026 PwD Cutoff – IIT PwD Category Qualifying Marks

PwD qualifying marks, 5% horizontal reservation, and JoSAA 2026 closing ranks for PwD category

JEE Advanced PwD Reservation: How It Works in 2026

PwD (Persons with Disability) is a horizontal reservation — meaning 5% of seats in each category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS) are reserved for PwD candidates within that category. This is fundamentally different from vertical reservations (SC/ST/OBC).

For example, if IIT Bombay CSE has 60 total seats: 3 seats are PwD-General, ~1 is PwD-EWS, ~1 is PwD-OBC, and fractional numbers for SC/ST PwD. The PwD rank within each base category determines allotment to these seats.

PwD candidates get 1 extra hour per paper in JEE Advanced. To avail PwD reservation in JoSAA, you must upload a valid disability certificate (minimum 40% disability) from a government medical board during JoSAA registration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JEE Advanced 2026 PwD category cutoff

1
What is the JEE Advanced 2026 PwD qualifying cutoff?
The PwD (Persons with Disability) qualifying cutoff is the same as the General category cutoff — approximately 90 marks in aggregate. However, PwD is a horizontal reservation that cuts across all categories. So a PwD-General candidate competes in General category, PwD-OBC candidate in OBC category, and so on. The qualifying threshold is the same as the base category of the candidate.
2
How does PwD reservation work in JEE Advanced and IITs?
PwD is a horizontal reservation of 5% across all categories. This means 5% of General seats, 5% of OBC seats, 5% of SC seats, and 5% of ST seats are reserved for PwD candidates within each category. PwD candidates are ranked in their base category and the PwD sub-list. JoSAA fills PwD seats from the PwD rank list within each category.
3
What disabilities qualify for PwD reservation in IITs?
PwD reservation applies to candidates with benchmark disabilities as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. This includes: visual impairment (blindness/low vision), hearing impairment (deaf/hard of hearing), locomotor disability (including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism), intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and multiple disabilities. A minimum 40% disability certificate from a government medical authority is required.
4
What accommodations are given to PwD candidates in JEE Advanced?
PwD candidates are given a compensatory time of 1 hour extra (total exam time = 4 hours per paper instead of 3 hours). Scribe/reader facility is provided upon request for candidates with visual impairment or physical disability affecting writing. Candidates must apply for these accommodations during registration.
5
Can a PwD candidate get IIT Bombay CSE?
Yes. PwD General candidates compete against other PwD General candidates. IIT Bombay CSE PwD seats (within General category) typically close at very small numbers — sometimes even 1-2 candidates in some branches. The PwD rank needed for IIT Bombay CSE depends heavily on how many PwD candidates qualify in the General category that year.
