JEE Advanced 2026 OBC-NCL Cutoff – IIT OBC Category Qualifying Marks

OBC-NCL qualifying marks, rank list, and IIT JoSAA 2026 closing ranks for OBC category

JEE Advanced OBC-NCL Qualifying Cutoff 2026

The OBC-NCL qualifying threshold is 90% of the General category minimum. In JEE Advanced 2025, the General cutoff was approximately 90 marks, making OBC-NCL cutoff approximately 81 marks out of 360. Subject-wise minimums are also proportionally reduced.

27% of IIT seats across all branches are reserved for OBC-NCL candidates. The OBC rank list is separate from CRL — all qualifying OBC-NCL candidates are ranked among themselves. JoSAA uses this rank to fill OBC-NCL reserved seats, with OBC candidates also eligible for General seats via CRL.

Key document requirement: Your OBC-NCL certificate must be for the Non-Creamy Layer and must be valid for the current year. IITs strictly verify OBC-NCL certificates at document verification. The certificate must be issued by a competent government authority of your state.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JEE Advanced 2026 OBC-NCL category cutoff

1
What is the JEE Advanced 2026 OBC-NCL qualifying cutoff?
The OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes — Non Creamy Layer) qualifying cutoff in JEE Advanced is set at 90% of the General category threshold. Based on JEE Advanced 2025, this was approximately 81 marks in aggregate out of 360, with subject-wise minimums of approximately 9 marks per subject per paper. The JEE Advanced 2026 result was declared on June 1, 2026 — check jeeadv.ac.in for the official category-wise cutoff.
2
What is OBC-NCL in JEE Advanced?
OBC-NCL stands for Other Backward Classes — Non Creamy Layer. Only OBC candidates whose family income is below the creamy layer limit (currently ₹8 lakh per annum) are eligible for OBC-NCL reservation in central institutions including IITs. You must have a valid OBC-NCL certificate issued by a competent authority, dated after the financial year cutoff.
3
How many IIT seats are reserved for OBC-NCL?
27% of seats in every IIT branch are reserved for OBC-NCL candidates. This is the largest reservation category in IITs. With approximately 17,000+ total JEE Advanced qualifying candidates and 27% OBC-NCL seats, there are about 3,000-4,000 OBC-NCL seats across all IITs in JoSAA.
4
Can an OBC-NCL candidate get IIT Bombay CSE?
Yes. IIT Bombay CSE for OBC-NCL closed at approximately OBC rank 20-35 in JoSAA 2025 Round 6. This corresponds to CRL rank roughly 200-500. If your OBC rank is in this range, IIT Bombay CSE is achievable. IIT Delhi CSE OBC closed at approximately OBC rank 30-50.
5
What if my OBC certificate is not updated for JEE Advanced 2026?
OBC-NCL certificates must be valid for the current financial year at the time of JoSAA document verification. If your certificate is from a previous financial year, you must obtain a fresh certificate before reporting to the allotted IIT. Failing to produce a valid OBC-NCL certificate results in losing reservation benefits and being treated as General category.
