CSAB 2026 Seat Allotment – Round-wise Results

CSAB seat allotment follows the same broad rank-and-choice logic as JoSAA, but it operates on a smaller, distinct pool of seats — specifically, seats at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs that remained unfilled after JoSAA's final round concluded. In each CSAB round, the system matches every registered candidate's rank against their locked choice list and the available seat matrix for that round, allotting each candidate the highest-preference choice their rank qualifies for among the seats still open. Because CSAB typically runs only two special rounds (compared to JoSAA's five or six), the seat matrix shifts noticeably between rounds as some candidates accept and others do not, so the range of options in round two can differ meaningfully from round one depending on how many candidates from round one declined or upgraded elsewhere.

A key structural point to understand is that CSAB allotment is provisional until a candidate completes both online seat acceptance (with fee payment) and, in most cases, physical reporting at the allotted institute. Skipping either step typically results in forfeiture of the seat, which is then released back into the pool for the next round or as a vacancy.

Timely reporting — both online seat acceptance and, where required, physical verification at the institute — is treated strictly in CSAB counselling, similar to JoSAA. Candidates who accept a seat online but fail to complete document verification within the reporting window generally risk having their admission cancelled, with the seat released back into the pool for subsequent rounds. Given that CSAB's reporting windows tend to be compressed compared to JoSAA's, it's worth planning travel and document collection well in advance rather than waiting until the final day of the window, especially if the allotted institute is in a different state and requires notarized or attested documents that take time to arrange.

If personal circumstances genuinely prevent reporting within the window, most institutes provide a limited grace mechanism or an option to report through an authorized representative with a notarized authorization letter — but this is institute-specific and not guaranteed, so it should never be relied upon as a default plan. Always check your specific allotted institute's admission notice for its exact reporting and verification procedure, since minor variations exist between NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

It's also useful to keep a checklist of both original documents and photocopies ready well before the reporting date, since institutes frequently reject incomplete document sets on the spot rather than allowing candidates to submit missing papers later. Original mark sheets, category certificates, and identity proof are almost universally required, and having extra photocopies on hand avoids last-minute scrambling for a photocopy shop near an unfamiliar campus.
