CSAB 2026 Registration – Closed (Full Process for Reference)

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) conducts a distinct counselling process from JoSAA, and this is reflected right from the registration stage. Even if you already registered, filled choices, and participated fully in JoSAA 2026, none of that data carries over automatically to CSAB. CSAB runs on its own portal, csab.nic.in, with its own registration form, its own choice-filling interface, and its own fee payment gateway. This separation exists because CSAB is administratively a different counselling body — though it works closely with JoSAA and shares the same underlying institute network (NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs) — and it specifically targets seats that remained vacant after JoSAA's final round concluded.

Practically, this means every candidate who wants to be considered for CSAB counselling — whether a fresh aspirant who skipped JoSAA, someone who got no allotment across all JoSAA rounds, or someone who withdrew from a JoSAA seat before the reporting deadline — must complete a fresh registration on the CSAB portal. Simply having qualified in JEE Main is not sufficient by itself; registration is the mandatory first gate that opens up access to choice filling and eventual seat allotment in CSAB's special rounds.

Registration alone does not secure you a seat — it only makes you eligible to participate in the choice-filling and allotment process. Once registered, candidates need to build a comprehensive list of institute-branch combinations in order of genuine preference, since CSAB (like JoSAA) allots seats based on the highest-preference choice that a candidate's rank qualifies for in a given round. A common mistake among first-time CSAB registrants is filling too few choices, assuming their rank guarantees a specific seat; because CSAB deals with the seats JoSAA could not fill, competition patterns can look quite different from JoSAA, and a wider spread of 30 to 50 choices generally improves your odds of a favourable outcome without any downside, since you are never forced to accept a choice you don't want.

It's also worth remembering that choices, once locked, typically cannot be edited. Many candidates find it useful to prepare their preference order in advance — comparing institute reputation, branch interest, location, and historical CSAB closing ranks — rather than filling the list hurriedly close to the deadline when portal traffic is usually at its highest.
