CSAB 2026 Document Verification Process – Online & Offline Steps

How CSAB actually verifies your documents, why verifications get rejected, and exactly how to fix an issue before your seat is at risk.

Online vs Offline Verification in CSAB 2026

CSAB 2026 verification happens in two distinct stages, and candidates are often confused about which one actually "confirms" their seat. The online pre-verification stage happens right after your seat allotment — you log in to csab.nic.in and upload scanned copies of your Class 10/12 marksheets, JEE Main scorecard, category certificate (if applicable), and photograph. This stage is a screening step: CSAB's verification team checks whether the documents are legible, in the correct format, and internally consistent with your application details.

The offline (physical) verification stage happens later, when you report in person to your allotted institute (or in some years, a designated Facilitation Centre). Here, officials compare your original documents against both the scans you uploaded and the CSAB allotment letter. Only after this in-person match is successful is your admission actually confirmed — the online stage alone does not guarantee your seat.

Because CSAB runs immediately after JoSAA's six rounds conclude, its verification windows are considerably tighter than JoSAA's. A document issue that might have had a week to resolve during JoSAA could have only a day or two of buffer in CSAB, so acting the moment a rejection appears on your dashboard is important rather than optional.

Common Rejection Reasons & How to Fix Them

  • Name mismatch: Even a difference in spacing, initials, or spelling between your JEE Main application and your Class 12 certificate can trigger a rejection. Fix: carry an affidavit or gazette notification explaining the discrepancy, or get the issuing board to correct the record in advance if time allows.
  • Expired or wrong-format category certificate: OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be recently issued and in the central-list format — a state-list OBC certificate will be rejected at a central institute. Fix: obtain a fresh central-list certificate from your SDM/Tehsildar before your reporting date.
  • Illegible or cropped scans: Online pre-verification frequently rejects scans that are blurry, rotated, or missing a corner. Fix: rescan at 200+ DPI in good lighting and re-upload within the correction window shown on your dashboard.
  • Missing self-attestation: Physical reporting centres expect every photocopy to be signed and marked "self-attested." Fix: sign and date every copy before you leave for reporting — don't wait to do it at the centre.
  • PwD certificate from a non-recognised source: Certificates from private clinics are rejected outright. Fix: get re-certified at a government hospital or official Disability Certification Board well before the reporting deadline.

If a rejection appears at the online stage, resolve it immediately — most correction windows are only 24–48 hours. If an issue surfaces only at physical reporting, ask the verification desk about the institute's specific grace-period policy; policies vary slightly by institute, so don't assume the same leeway everywhere. Frequently Asked Questions – CSAB 2026 Document Verification

Common questions about how CSAB verifies documents and fixes rejections

1
Is CSAB 2026 document verification done online or in person?
Both. CSAB 2026 uses a two-stage model: first an online pre-verification where you upload scanned documents to csab.nic.in after allotment, and second a physical/offline verification at the reporting institute (or a designated Facilitation Centre) where original documents are checked against the uploaded scans. Even if your online upload is accepted, you must still complete offline verification to confirm your seat.
2
What happens if my document is rejected during online verification?
If an uploaded document is rejected (illegible scan, wrong format, mismatched name, or wrong certificate), CSAB typically flags your application and gives you a short correction window — often 24–48 hours — to re-upload a corrected document. Track the status on your dashboard; rejections are not always emailed promptly, so check the portal directly rather than waiting for a notification.
3
What are the most common reasons for CSAB document rejection?
The most common reasons are: name mismatch between JEE Main application and certificates, an OBC-NCL/EWS certificate older than the validity window, blurry or partially cropped scans, missing self-attestation signature on photocopies, and category certificates not in the central-list format required by NITs/IIITs (state-list OBC certificates are not accepted for central institutes).
4
Can I fix a document verification issue after physical reporting has started?
Yes, within limits. Most reporting centres allow candidates to correct minor issues (like a missing self-attestation or an extra photocopy) on the spot, but a genuinely invalid or expired certificate (e.g., an OBC-NCL certificate outside the validity window) cannot be fixed on-site — the candidate is usually given a short grace period to obtain a corrected certificate before the reporting deadline closes, after which the seat can be cancelled.
5
Who verifies CSAB documents — CSAB or the institute?
Online pre-verification is handled by CSAB's verification team or an empowered committee at designated centres. Final verification, however, happens at the allotted institute itself during physical reporting — institute officials check your originals against both your uploaded scans and the CSAB allotment letter before confirming admission.
6
Does CSAB document verification differ from JoSAA's?
The document types required are the same, but CSAB's verification window is noticeably shorter since it runs after JoSAA's six rounds conclude. This leaves less time to fix an error. For the full list of documents you'll need to prepare before verification, see our dedicated document checklist.
