What is WBJEE Counselling?

WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) counselling is conducted by WBJEEB on wbjeeb.nic.in for admission to engineering, pharmacy, and architecture programs at institutes across West Bengal. Qualifying the WBJEE exam only makes a candidate eligible to participate — a separate counselling registration, document upload, and choice filling process must be completed to actually be considered for seat allotment.

Top institutes accessible through WBJEE counselling include Jadavpur University and IIEST Shibpur, alongside government engineering colleges and a large number of private engineering colleges spread across the state. WBJEE counselling runs independently of JoSAA/CSAB, though some institutes participate in both processes for different quotas.

WBJEE Counselling Process – Step by Step

1

WBJEE Counselling Registration

After the WBJEE 2026 result, register separately on wbjeeb.nic.in with your roll number, application number, and personal details. Registration is mandatory even if you already applied for the exam.

2

Document Upload & Verification

Upload scanned copies of Class 10/12 mark sheets, WBJEE admit card and scorecard, category certificates (if applicable), and photo ID for verification.

3

Choice Filling

Arrange preferred college-branch combinations in order of priority. This list is used by the allotment algorithm — put your most-wanted options at the top.

4

Seat Allotment (Round 1)

Based on your WBJEE rank, category, and choices, the first round of seats is allotted and published on the portal.

5

Freeze or Upgrade

Decide whether to Freeze the Round 1 seat or opt for Upgrade to be considered for a better preference in Round 2, while your current seat stays protected.

6

Round 2 Allotment

Candidates who chose Upgrade (and those unallotted in Round 1) are processed again; a fresh, possibly better, allotment is published.

7

Mop-Up Round & Reporting

Remaining vacant seats are filled in a final Mop-Up round. Allotted candidates report to their institute with original documents to complete admission.

Frequently Asked Questions – WBJEE 2026 Counselling

Common questions about the WBJEE counselling process

1
Who conducts WBJEE counselling and where do I register?
WBJEE counselling is conducted by WBJEEB (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board) on the official portal wbjeeb.nic.in. Candidates who qualify WBJEE 2026 must register separately for counselling using their WBJEE roll number and application details after the result is declared — WBJEE qualification alone does not guarantee a seat without completing registration and choice filling.
2
How many rounds does WBJEE 2026 counselling have?
WBJEE 2026 counselling was conducted in 2 main allotment rounds followed by a Mop-Up round for any seats left vacant. Round 1 allotment was declared July 7, 2026, and Round 2 allotment was declared July 21, 2026, after a registration/choice-filling window from July 13–17. The Mop-Up round (final round) followed after Round 2.
3
What colleges can I get through WBJEE counselling?
WBJEE counselling covers government and private engineering colleges across West Bengal, including top institutes like Jadavpur University and IIEST Shibpur (which also participate in JoSAA/CSAB for a portion of seats), along with government colleges such as Kalyani Government Engineering College and numerous private engineering colleges across the state.
4
What is the difference between Freeze and Upgrade/Float in WBJEE counselling?
If you choose to Freeze your allotted seat, you exit the counselling process and are not considered in subsequent rounds — your admission is locked. If you choose Upgrade (sometimes labelled Float), your current seat is held as a safety net while you are automatically considered for better preferences in the next round. You cannot get a worse seat than your current one by choosing Upgrade.
5
Is WBJEE counselling separate from JoSAA and CSAB?
Yes, WBJEE counselling (via WBJEEB) is a separate, state-level process from JoSAA and CSAB, which are central counselling bodies for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on JEE Main/Advanced ranks. Some West Bengal institutes like IIEST Shibpur participate in both WBJEE state counselling and, for certain quotas, in JoSAA/CSAB, so eligible candidates can pursue both processes in parallel.
6
What happens if I don't get a seat after the Mop-Up round?
If you remain unallotted after the Mop-Up round, WBJEE counselling generally does not offer further centralized rounds. At that point, candidates typically explore other options such as CSAB special rounds (if JEE Main eligible), COMEDK, or direct/management-quota admission at private colleges. It's advisable to apply to multiple counselling processes in parallel rather than waiting solely on WBJEE.
