WBJEE 2026 Round 2 Seat Allotment
Round 2 choice filling ran July 13–17, 2026, and the allotment result was declared July 21, 2026. Here's how upgrades work, how Jadavpur/IIEST seats typically behave, and what to do next.
Understanding WBJEE Round 2 Allotment
WBJEEB runs West Bengal's engineering counselling in three stages: Round 1, Round 2, and a Mop-Up round. Round 1 seat allotment for WBJEE 2026 was released on July 7, 2026, and candidates who accepted their seat with the 'Upgradation Yes' option automatically remain in contention for Round 2. Round 2 itself involved a fresh registration and choice-editing window from July 13 to 17, 2026, letting candidates revise their preference order based on how Round 1 played out — a feature not every state counselling offers, and one candidates frequently underuse.
A frequent mistake in Round 2 is leaving the choice list unchanged from Round 1 out of inertia. Since WBJEEB allows editing before each round's deadline, candidates who received an unsatisfactory Round 1 seat should actively reconsider their list — removing colleges they are no longer interested in and, more importantly, verifying that all colleges they would accept remain correctly ranked. Because Round 2 allotment only ever matches or improves your Round 1 position, there is no downside to keeping your list broad, but a poorly maintained list can cause you to miss a genuinely better seat that opened up.
Institute behavior varies significantly by tier in WBJEE counselling. Jadavpur University and IIEST Shibpur, the two flagship institutes, typically see minimal seat movement between Round 1 and Round 2 for General category CSE and Electronics seats — these fill almost entirely within Round 1. Government-aided colleges and MAKAUT (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology)-affiliated private engineering colleges show much more Round 2 movement, as candidates who initially accepted a private-college seat as a backup often upgrade out once a government-aided seat becomes available.
West Bengal's counselling does not apply the kind of large state/non-state domicile split seen in some other states, but home-state candidates do get priority for certain state-quota seats at JU and IIEST, and category-based horizontal reservations (SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) apply consistently across all three rounds. If you belong to a reserved category and were not allotted in Round 1, check the Round 2 vacancy list carefully — reserved seats at government colleges sometimes remain unfilled even when general-category equivalents are gone, since eligible candidate pools are smaller.
Financially, Round 2 upgrades usually only require a fee adjustment rather than a full fresh payment, since WBJEEB's portal calculates the difference between your Round 1 and Round 2 institute fee structures. However, government and government-aided college fees differ substantially from private self-financing college fees under MAKAUT, so don't assume the amount will be negligible — always check the exact figure on your Round 2 allotment letter.

What to Do After Round 2 Allotment
Got an upgrade (better than Round 1)
- Log in to wbjeeb.nic.in and download the updated allotment letter
- Pay the seat acceptance fee/fee difference within the given deadline
- Upload/verify documents as required
- Report to the newly allotted institute within its reporting window
Same allotment as Round 1 (no upgrade)
- This means no better option opened up for your rank and category in Round 2
- Your Round 1 acceptance and any fee already paid carries forward
- Proceed with document verification and reporting if not already done
- You remain eligible for the Mop-Up round if you still want to try for an upgrade
Not allotted in Round 2 either
- The Mop-Up round (registration July 24–26, allotment declared July 28, 2026) was your next opportunity — check your Mop-Up result if you registered
- Check eligibility for the decentralised counselling process WBJEEB is running now (registration extended to Sept 9, 2026, admission confirmation Sept 12, 2026)
- Simultaneously explore other counsellings such as COMEDK or JEE Main-based options
- If still unallotted, pursue institute-level spot admission at MAKAUT-affiliated private colleges
- Don't wait passively — apply to multiple counsellings in parallel to avoid missing deadlines
Category-Wise Notes for Round 2
- SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B and PwD reservations apply proportionally in every round, including Round 2 — check the category-wise vacancy list, not just the overall vacancy list.
- State-quota seats at Jadavpur University and IIEST Shibpur prioritize West Bengal domicile candidates — out-of-state candidates should check the All India quota seat matrix separately.
- Reserved-category seats at government and government-aided colleges sometimes stay vacant into Round 2 even when general-category seats close in Round 1 — worth checking if you're an eligible category candidate.
