TNEA Rank Predictor 2026 – Estimate Your Rank from Cutoff Marks

Calculate your TNEA cutoff mark and estimate your likely rank using previous year trends.

How TNEA Rank Works

Unlike JEE Main, TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) does not use a national entrance exam. Instead, your rank is derived entirely from your Class 12 board exam marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, converted into a single TNEA Cutoff Mark out of 200.

Formula: Cutoff Mark = Maths + (Physics ÷ 2) + (Chemistry ÷ 2). All TNEA applicants are then ranked in descending order of this score to form the overall merit list.

Approximate TNEA Mark-to-Rank Bands (Historical Reference)

Based on general previous-year patterns for the open (OC) category. Actual 2026 figures depend on board exam difficulty and total applicants — verify against the official TNEA merit list once released.

Frequently Asked Questions – TNEA Rank Predictor 2026

Common questions about estimating your TNEA rank

1
How is TNEA rank calculated?
TNEA rank is based on your TNEA cutoff mark, a weighted score computed from your Class 12 Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry marks (Maths given full weight, Physics and Chemistry halved, out of a total of 200). Candidates are then ranked in descending order of this cutoff mark, with tie-breaking rules applied for identical scores.
2
Is there an official TNEA rank predictor tool?
The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu does not publish a live rank predictor before the official merit list is released. Your exact rank depends on how your cutoff mark compares to every other applicant's, which is only known once DoTE compiles the complete list. You can estimate a probable rank range using previous year's mark-vs-rank data.
3
How do I calculate my own TNEA cutoff mark?
TNEA Cutoff Mark = Maths mark + (Physics mark / 2) + (Chemistry mark / 2), out of a maximum of 200. For example, if you scored 95 in Maths, 88 in Physics, and 90 in Chemistry, your cutoff mark = 95 + 44 + 45 = 184.
4
How can I estimate my TNEA rank from my cutoff mark?
Compare your calculated cutoff mark against previous year's (2025) mark-vs-rank distribution. As a rough historical pattern, cutoff marks above 195 typically fall in the top few hundred ranks (General category), marks in the 180-195 range fall in the low thousands, and marks in the 150-180 range fall in the broader mid-range. These bands shift slightly each year based on the overall difficulty of Class 12 board exams and number of applicants, so treat this as approximate.
5
What should I do after estimating my TNEA rank?
Once you have an approximate rank, use our TNEA College Predictor tool to check which colleges and branches you're likely to get based on your rank and community category (OC/BC/BCM/MBC/SC/SCA/ST).
6
Does TNEA rank differ by community category?
The overall TNEA rank (based on cutoff mark) is the same list for everyone, but seat allotment and effective competition differ by community category since Tamil Nadu reserves a defined percentage of seats for BC, BCM, MBC, SC, SCA, and ST candidates. A candidate's community rank (rank within their own category) is often more relevant for predicting college allotment than their overall rank.
